Couple more guitar straps that I've done (my 2nd and 3rd straps completed so far). These are for 2 of the guys in my band. One likes Transformers and the other likes fishing... I made my own pattern for these as we wanted longer straps than we could traditionally find as it's a bit more "rock 'n' roll".

Leather Beer Growler Holder Pattern
Sven WillIBeFamous replied to billium's topic in Patterns and Templates
Hi, I picked up your Growler pattern yesterday as a few friends are asking for me to make one for them and I'm looking forward to getting to grips with this. A couple of questions though: In the PDF that I originally downloaded it says that there will be some detailed instructions to follow, but I haven't had these sent to me. You also say that you use a Ladder stitch, but I've never seen this done before so wondering if you can point me in the right direction, or if the detailed instructions will include this? -
Awesome work. I've just finished my 1st 3 guitar straps for the guys in my band (I'll post some pictures in another thread) and looking at your decorative work is making me want to up my game. Quick question, do you treat the back of the strap with anything? I've been putting tan kote on mine just to try and seal the back but wasn't sure if there was a need, or if there is something better to be using?

This has probably been asked before somewhere but I couldn't find anything suitable in my searches. I'm going to be making some guitar straps soon as I have an idea to have the majority of the strap black, and then have the tooled sections left with a natural, or maybe light tan, finish. I've done one other piece before using 2 different dyes and I found that when I applied a coat of resolene I had some transfer of the black on the tanned sections. Is the best option to carefully apply resolene or carnauba to the tooled sections before I apply the black? Or is there another technique which will serve me better? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Leather Telecaster Pickguard
Sven WillIBeFamous replied to firestormhcg's topic in Musical Instruments
I never considered a leather pick guard before. I love the idea though and I have some friends who'd probably appreciate such a thing. -
New Journal
Sven WillIBeFamous replied to firestormhcg's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
I so want to make some of these journal covers. It's definitely on my To Do list for the summer. Great work and I love the tooling and as everyone else has mentioned that inlay line. So straight and sharp! -
Trialling making some full bracers for LARP/Cosplay purposes, with a view to making some for friends who are players. Not fully complete as there is another piece to be attached to a half glove, and then attached to this. The top section needs to be shaped so that it wraps closer to the arm, and then curls out towards the top. I need to work on the buckles and straps in future, but I think most of my issues are that this is quite heavy, stiff leather. Any hints and tips to making buckles and straps will be appreciated. Really happy with the way the tooling has turned out. As always I welcome critique and comments.

Using Multiple Colours Of Dye

I have a bottle of super sheen I think. I'll give that a try on the next project. -
Crazy About Tooling
Sven WillIBeFamous replied to cicftaiwan's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Nice work. I especially like the border. -
Sorry if this has been asked before... Last night I tried to use 2 different dyes on the same piece I was working on. By that I mean I wanted the background of my piece to be black and then the raised sections to be light brown. Due to my newness to all this I only have a bottle of USMC black and a bottle of Antique Leather stain. I put the antique stain on first and then when that has dried applied the black, but when I went to use the resolene to finish it, I noticed that the black was coming off showing the antique stain below it. Hints and tips appreciated please as I want to be able to use this technique a lot in future. Thanks in advance.

I cased the leather well before I stamped it but I think when I was working the leather to shape it round the knife I think I dulled the impressions I originally made. There is a welt in there which you can see (kind of) in the 3rd picture of the side of the sheath. The leather I used for the whole thing is probably 8 - 9oz so it's a nice sturdy welt. On my next order I'm going to pick up a load of random bits of hardware like D and O rings just to keep handy for projects like this. Thanks for the pointers.

Yeah, I didn't have enough leather on the piece to make a full belt loop, and I'd seen some sheaths before which have that configuration for the belt loop. I haven't got any O or D rings, so I improvised. This sheath will mainly be for a bit of decoration as my dad doesn't use the knife for anything other than opening letters, so he's unlikely to be wearing on his belt a lot.

Armor Modifed For A Steampunk Look
Sven WillIBeFamous replied to thecruffler's topic in Historical Reenactment
WOW. I have some friends who are bugging me to build some armour for them, and I keep seeing stuff like this and hoping I can produce something which comes even a little bit close. I don't suppose you have any patterns or guides of how you made the individual sections? -
Microphone Holster
Sven WillIBeFamous replied to Sven WillIBeFamous's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
The plan is to build a utility belt specifically for when I'm announcing games. I'm thinking water bottle holder, space for sharpies and whiteboard pens, spare batteries for the mics, a hook or a clip to hang a clipboard from and many, many other compartments I'll think of later. -
Just picked up some basics to try my hand at stitching. I've had an idea to make a utility belt for when I'm announcing Roller Derby games and so this is the 1st prototype of one of the elements. It's my first go at stitching and wet forming, and I sort of just made up the design as I went along. Really happy with it as it stands at the minute but I can definitely see a few areas I can improve on. As always, comments and critiques are welcome.

Another Cuff - My Band Logo
Sven WillIBeFamous replied to Sven WillIBeFamous's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
@LeatherJR It's finished with Fiebings Antique stain and a coat of Resoline. -
I'm still using up my offcuts of leather to practice my tooling and such and this is my latest cuff I've made. I'm a bass player in a band and this is our logo (along with a Bass Clef) Quite pleased with the little gas mask and the B and the O.
