  1. To get more even tension loop the thread through the eye on top of the machine before it goes under the attention spring hey just trying to help. Run the thread like you would and through the needle pull on the thread how does the tension feel. Compare it to the bobbin tension. They should be equal that's what you want

  2. practice and stain the tan first then use a very course sponge just on the edge and lightly drag the full length. with a weaving motion to simulate grain. I'd use choc. then on the edge from the side on out feather the choc so it fades then go back and paint the red

  3. all I'm saying is take the bobbin spring out remove the screw check and clean the spring replace all and adj tension. do the same on the top remove the knob the spring and the plate, make sure its all clean , put it back together adj you tension ; with the presser foot down make sure the tensions seems to be the same . now with some scrap fine adj your tension and I hope that will do it. I might be wrong but that's about all there is . the timings not off .its making a stich. just no tension

  4. orthopedic grade some heavy elk 5-6 oz come in fue colors white, black . brown , tan, beige , and a green. try rodan leather mich usa white is tuff to work with what you need to understand it tannerys might do a short run you might check with what they have left over. theirs waterhouse good luck most of those colors are just surface dies might be a small demand but no money for a big run/.you and everone that would want it couldn't buy enough to get the tannery to do it

  5. how much do you need I might be able to find some kembro ,that was used years ago. last time I ordered it they send me all they had. its probly still setting on the shelf at work. there were 4-5 sheets 1 meter x 1 meter . this stuff is like what the bottom of pads feel like . its grey in color 1/8 - 3/16 thick this was what we covered the prosthetic leather sockets with for the removable liners its probley some of the last that's around. they are not do like that any more . now they use gel liners, or foam . either pelite or bocklite . you might try a company call best foam they sell different colors and different density from 1/16---1 inch

  6. oh! so critical . you could use the floor but kind of hard on carpets. . Concretes kind of tuff on the new blades . wood is good ,but walking barefoot you'll need the watch out for splinters after a time. now ,as I spoke earlier the LDPE is good because its not to ruff on the razor knives and such. and poly pro is to hard blades will dull quick . only thing I see that been left out is building a spot on the end or on a corner ,a place to do your skiving. I'd recess it in so everything's the same height.

  7. I'm going to build my self a leather layout table that I can walk around . the top will be double 1/2 inch plywood with a lot of cross member support . make it strong . i'll get come 1/4 inch low density poly ethylene plastic . you can find it at your local orthotic and prosthetic shop that does there own fab work . to cut it all you need to do is cut with a razor knife and bent it away from the cut. And she'll break right off.

  8. Jim your the one from Nova Scotia right . I have the Oct - Nov 1975 the other is in pretty bad shape. that's a give me . what others are you look for. I got mixed up on who was who. Now that I think I know what's what. tell me again what else are you looking for . Its been one of those days ceiling light went on the fix, dryer broken and then I'm trying to sort out the old mags your asking about. enough said let me know i'll see if I have them and we can go from there. ? that sound good to you

  9. oh the man with the questions. right now I'm just getting set up after years of working for some one else. I have some stuff buried but still need to build me a good table for lay out and to work at. one of my first projects will be making harness straps for some sleigh bells I have . going natural or tan rather than conventional black . so i'll need some 1 1/4 stapled loops but don't how many yet . that why the gift certificate sounds so good.

  11. from what was told to me .those high back saddles from that era just won't fit the horses today. every thing was smaller back then. this summer I picked up a good Frazier high back saddle that's in really good condition. several told me as a work of art it great but as being usable its not . this a saw buck saddle with oxbow stirrups it even has the saddlebags built in. all that I ever needed to do was wipe it down with skidmore a fue times and its good to go. great saddle I plan on selling in the coming months and buy a new sewing machine www.western-saddle-guide.com /gallery I think this is the right web page you will see where some has done what your asking to do have fun

look on the left side and open the gallery
