About Me

I like leather. And I'm a nerd. Hence the name. :)

I'm new to the craft but I'm enjoying it immensely. I like doing experiments (did I mention I'm a nerd?) that result in either a success or a lesson learned.

I'm a pragmatist, which means "if it works, go with it." This means I am willing to break with tradition and commit heresies against leathercraft in order to get a particular effect or result. However, I also have a great love and respect for tradition and those who practice the art form in a more "pure" fashion. I would never pass something off as "traditional" unless I had restricted myself to just the proper, traditional techniques in its construction.

I'm also a scientist, which means "when in doubt, try it and see what happens". I've tooled oil-tan leather. I've built designs that require unfinished edges to work. And I have deliberately overdone, underdone, and otherwise wrecked many many techniques just to see what would happen--and to get a feel for why "the right way" is... well, RIGHT.

I'm happy to respectfully share a comment or an opinion, and I welcome feedback on pretty much any aspect of my work. I'm here to learn!
