Are odors from leather dangerous??
LeatherWorthy replied to thekid77's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Well if it is, I'm screwed lol. I take some scrap pieces and put them in some cheesecloth.... put it under my seats in my vehicle..... I LOVE that smell. -
Cem, These are absolutely beautiful works of art! I hate it that you are getting out of the business, as I see you as an absolute artisan. If you ever decide to sell the patterns, please let me know! I would be very interested to purchase the American versions. And it would take me a bit to make it to Perth, since im in the US. I hope everything works out for the best!

Now that is some artwork I can appreciate! Very nice!

Fiebings dye

Id go with Mattsbagger as well. I dilute most of my stuff 5:1 with either denatured alcohol or Fiebings Dye reducer ( Which I suspect is identical to my wife's fingernail polish remover) lol. -
Wooowwwwwwww. You win the internet today! Youve got me laughing my ass off at work, and I work in a computer cubicle farm.

That is absolutely amazing! I gotta look into this. You made my day!

So I have a chance to buy a Toyota J34 demin sewing machine. It shows that it is capable of sewing through several layers of what looks like upholstery leather.I make holsters, sheathes, and heavy duty dog collars. I typically use 4-8 oz leather for my projects. Would this machine be up to the task? I came to you guys first, since you all are a plethora of knowledge. Thanks in advance!

That looks really good! Keep it up!

Thanks! Im still active, so I was gonna bring orders and CAC and have my reenlistment paperwork with me just in case lol
-
Now that looks like a lot of fun!

Thank you guys for your input! I kind of figured that would be the case, but for $20.00, I figured it was going to be too good to be true. Im currently eyeing a Cowboy CB3200. I still hand punch and hand stitch everything, and I have some people wanting me to do belts and holsters. I didnt want to hand sew the belts, especially since they are going to be for EDC.

So I was on one of the facebook yard sale sites and stumbled upon a Singer Model 337 sewing machine in the table. Its really cheap, but I don't want to get it if its not what I am going to need. Has anyone had any experience with them? I know Im not gonna be able to sew two layers of 10/11 oz leather with it, but maybe for smaller things? You guys are a wealth of knowledge, so I figured Id ask before I picked it up. Thanks in advance!

What all did you have to bring? I assume a DD-214 or some form of documentation? I ask because I am still in. I guess I need to call Tandy. I dont want to drive 2 hours and be missing any paperwork lol.

I personally think they should offer at least some sort of discount to ALL first responders. I was a FF/EMT before I joined the military, so I know the sacrifices. My brother in law is a cop. It would be nice to see a discount for risky public services, whether it be FF, EMT, LEO, RA, AR, NG, ANG, etc. Maybe us calling them and telling them that would resound on the back boards. I actually already have a gold membership, and if I could, I would extend it to all of the public servants that shop there.
-
Thank you! I usually dont go out and ask for military discounts or anything of the like, but thats a huge discount that I cant pass up. The closest one is about an hour and a half from me in Columbia, SC, and I like driving up there when I am selecting my leather, so I may actually pick up a couple of other things from them now.

So I was prowling the bowels of reddit (they have a leathercraft section as well), and I stumbled across a possible deal for current or prior service US Military. Apparently, starting November 1st 2016, If you are or were US Military, you will be eligible for their Elite membership or Elite prices. The employee said that the criteria for your eligibility will be coming in the November sales flyer. I have posted the link to the original below. I may have to call tandy on monday to either confirm or deny this. https://www.reddit.com/r/Leathercraft/comments/57m1rb/just_a_heads_up_from_a_tandy_employee_for_any/#bottom-comments

So I started playing with leather because I had bought a pistol but it was still somewhat new to the US so I decided that I could just make one. I was instantly hooked. From there I've made insulated beer koozie, buttstock sleeves, holsters, Starbucks coffee sleeves. My co-workers have convinced me that I should drop an LLC.
