  1. Is it possible to achieve an acceptable outcome if you complete the stitching work on border of layered belt and thereafter case , transfer pattern , cut and tool pattern ?
  2. Good advice and thank you JLS. Still very green at this - but I love it , just wish I had more easy access to quality tools , hardware etc. Very frustrating having limited resources. BUT I am finding lots of incredibly helpful professionals here advising and leading the way for me. It is very much appreciated. My goal is to save up and come over and do some hunting marketing and visit some of the leather shows. Establish some relationships and buy items I can bring home with me. I may be going in the wrong direction so help me. My ambition is to build a reputation for creating custom belts and adding my own handmade buckles from horn , bone , antler , ivory engraved by myself and combination buckles of these materials inlayed into metals ( stainless steel / silver ). If I am headed for disappointment please advise me. If not encouragement would be appreciated.
  3. Has anyone used evenly split rawhide between the two layers of a lined belt to add to its rigidity ? I have thought of trying this and probably will test out my theory sometime. I know its not always practical but hell it would be nice if it all works out in practice - an all hide reinforced gun belt !!
  4. If you had to hand stitch ( saddle stitch ) , by how much would that effect the price ? Assuming these belts were machine stitched. Takes me about 5 to 6 hours to hand stitch a lined belt depending on length. Your belts are awesome by the way.
  5. You guys are great. Thanks a lot for your help. Still looking for where I can buy the limited stretch / heavy duty elastic for making suspenders.
  6. Thanks for your helpful responses. Is there a recently released book on holster making out there. Books I have seen advertised seem to be older gen and orientated more toward revolvers. Alternatively are there people willing to sell pattern templates for both revolvers and pistols ? There is a type of post screw I have seen used in holster making that has a rubber cylinder that acts as a tensioner - what is the correct name for that accessory ?
  7. Hello again. I guess this may sound like a silly posting but here goes. Were you ever at a point in your leather craft challenges when you knew what you needed but did not know what the correct leather artisans name or term was for an item ? Makes it difficult to describe to someone over the phone or by mail - and can be embarrassing and frustrating for both parties ! Like you need to order this thing NOW , but heck you don't know what its called. I'm sure I can't be the only sucker. The lack of knowledge can be a spoiler , especially if you're an obstinate , arrogant fool with to much pride to ask. Gets you nowhere fast. Okay so you know where I am at this point - I have evolved ! Damn , that was difficult !! So I humbly ask , are there any comprehensive books regarding the description of tools and their uses as well as their correct names. Also the correct names for hardware and the uses , dyes , and all the every day stuff you would likely use in leather work ? I believe the US will have different names for the same item as opposed to the UK. Terminology within the US varies a bit anyhow I have observed. I am sure some books exist on these topics that are pretty uniform. I just need a good reference book with diagrams / photo's to assist me get over this hurdle to assist me when ordering items. A buyers guide. Hope some soul out there understands my plight and will come to the rescue. Thanks - Roybee.
  8. Hello leatherworkers. I am a registered hunting outfitter and guide from the Eastern Cape in South Africa. I am 51 years of age and am starting out at leatherwork to compliment my interest in the outdoors which include hunting with hounds and regular hunting , horses , fishing etc. I want to incorporate by products of hunting into my leather work by adding bone , horn , quills , feathers etc. Hope to make my own buckles , conchos and the likes to add to the leather items I make. Thanks for making me feel welcome as I have already received help from members. I am so happy to have been referred to this forum by face book friends. Thank you and hope I will learn a lot from you all. Best regards , Roy Sparks.
  9. Hello Jim , I will not hold you on a line. You must sell the Tippmann first come first served. I have a local dealer in Cape Town that offers the Techsew ( Cowboy ) series with a backup service that is local. In terms of affordability and practicality I believe that would be my wisest option at this point in time. I would love a Tippmann and hope one day I could afford to have one as a working novelty in my work shop. Thanks for taking the trouble to contact me back. Best regards - Roybee.
  10. I would like to know if there are any shops that specialize in suspender accessories. I am looking at making suspenders more specifically for the outdoorsman. I would like to offer different styles but using durable materials that will not look out of place on a fisherman / angler or hunter. I need to know where I can shop for the stretch type webbing ( heavy duty / limited stretch ) and regular non stretch webbing. Also the variety and choices of hardware assemblies from snaps / clasps to sliders. Thanks - Roybee.
  11. Thank you Capt. My physical address I would like a parcel / package delivered to is 1 Southey Street , Tarkastad 5370 , Republic of South Africa. If you could find out the DHL cost to my door I would appreciate that. Regards - Roybee.
  12. Hello from South Africa. I am searching for a Tippmann Aerostitch machine in good working order. Obviously the equipment will have to be shipped to me via DHL. Let me know whoever is willing to sell. Please advise if you believe I should consider another type of stitching machine considering where I live in terms of maintenance of a Tippmann. Regards from the South.
  13. Have you sold your aerostitch yet mate ?
  14. Have you sold your machine yet sir ? I am certainly interested in buying. I am new on the forum. You can PM me here if that's possible or e-mail me at sparkshounds@isat,co.za thank you so much. Roybee.
