  1. Hi Mark, thanks for the info. I will look into Montezuma Saddlery in Sonora and see what I come up with.
  2. Is there any functional difference between a straight cantle and a Cheyenne roll on a western saddle? What is the point of different western cantles?
  3. A cowboy appeared before St. Peter at the Pearly Gates. "Have you ever done anything of particular merit?" St. Peter asked. "Well, I can think of one thing," the cowboy offered. "On a trip to the Black Hills out in South Dakota, I came upon a gang of bikers who were threatening a young woman. I told them to leave her alone, but they wouldn't listen. So I approached the largest and most heavily tattooed biker and smacked him in the face, kicked his bike over, ripped out his nose ring, threw it on the ground, and yelled, "Now, back off! Or I'll kick the crap out of all of you!" St. Peter was impressed, "When did this happen?" The cowboy replied, "Just a couple of minutes ago."
  4. Hi Ann What you have there is a vintage equitation style show saddle. These were da bomb on the AQHA & Arabian show circuits throughout the 80's. The seat is styled to help you hold your position so that the judge can evaluate your 'equitation'. lol! I don't know the maker but, Billy Cook, Circle Y, Broken Horn, Silver Royal and many of the more popular saddle lines all had their version of the equitation saddle. The color and the popular cantle and skirt lacing date it to the mid 80's more or less.
  5. Hi Farmers Daughter and welcome to the forum! Let me first say that I really like your avatar. Now about the Alamo saddle. I am not an expert, but I will tell you what I do know. The Alamo line of saddles is a mid priced saddle line that hoped to attract the middle of the road buyer. The company is based in Texas and the saddles are made with American components and US leather. However, to keep the manufacturing costs down, the components are shipped and assembled in Mexico. In other words, the are Mexican made saddles made with US components. I hope that helps.
  6. Dr Jacksons Hide Rejuvenator is hands down, the best leather conditioner I have ever used. You can buy it from Tandy: http://www.tandyleatherfactory.com/search/searchresults/21978-00.aspx?feature=Product_1&kw=hide+rejuvenator
  7. Hi Butch! I was admiring your braiding. Nice work. Do you do reins?

  8. I told this story to a rancher friend of mine who said the last thing he would use to break colts is a rig with a castrator (metal) horn.
  9. Thanks for the info. Here are a few more photos of it, including the logo. I was told it is Aussie made, but I have no way of knowing that for certain.
  10. This is what I know about it. It's entirely rough out, and it has plenty of scars. Worst are the ends of the bear trap swells. It was brought into a pawn shop in New Mexico by an old Mexican cowboy who claims he rode it for 40 years and used it to break colts. It has felt rather than sheepskin underneath and laced leathers. Its maker marked in a few places 'Montezuma Sons Saddlery'.
  11. The maker is Bob Berg Rodeo Equipment. Any information is appreciated. Thanks
  12. Here is a photo. I would appreciate any input. Thanks
  13. I have an old saddle made by Montezuma Sons that I have had in storage for a while. I would like to put it up for sale and need to advertise it correctly. Problem is I can't find any info about Montezuma Sons Saddlery. Does anyone on the forum have any information about them? I will try to post some pix when I get some time. Thanks all.

  16. Anybody have any thoughts on this one? Auction time is running out...
  17. Hello again, Sorry for the endless barrage of saddle questions today. Thanks for putting up with me. So heres the deal. I am looking at a couple of different saddles on line (posted previously) and just came across this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/Used-Endurance-Trail-Pleasure-Saddle-NR_W0QQitemZ300357873251QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item45eeb96e63 I like the rigging and it needs repairs, but that's ok. Can anyone tell if this is a Mule saddle or not?
  18. Thank you Darcy for the explanation. I suppose this varies between female riders, but I understand the concept....even though it doesn't seem to apply to me personally.
  19. Yes, that part is obvious. As a petite individual, I am pretty much built without any 'junk in the trunk'. I have sat in some womens saddles and found them uncomfortable. I prefer a very narrow twist in the seat and was curious about the differences in the way they were made. Most specifically, I was referring to how the actual saddle seat construction differs. My apologies for not being clear.
  20. Can you explain how a ladies saddle differs from a standard saddle?
  21. Here is another. Do you like this one any better? I don't care for the silver, but that is not a big deal to me. http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-BIG-HORN-WESTERN-TRAIL-SADDLE-15-INCH-FULL-QH_W0QQitemZ120481159149QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0d3c97ed
  22. Open to suggestions folks! There are some exceptions: No Ralide trees (shudder)or Cordura. Semi QH bars,Prefer double rigged, but consider others. 15" seat. Prefer rawhide wrapped wooden tree over fiberglass, not black (too hot)and I have to be able to lift it. I am petite and rather it not be over 35lbs max. Thanks again.
  23. OK folks, the search continues. I am looking for a hunting saddle and I prefer the vintage ones. Take a look at these saddles and tell me what you think. Don't hold back. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150381119699&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT Or this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-WYETH-NICE-TAKE-A-LOOK_W0QQitemZ190341775794QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2c514101b2 I would value any saddle or tree makers opinions. Thanks
