Why cant I find their company information? Nothing against fineleatherworking but if I can buy from a vendor directly, I will. Seems an oddity to me I cant reach them when I want to!

In order of preference: dye and heat, assemble and burnish, brace in a clamp and burnish along a narrowly exposed portion of the leather.

I would use the awl to get the best possible look, and then space your stitches out a little further than usual to avoid having problems under tension. A French seam might also be something to think about in that context.
