  1. Thanks :D I've been wearing it around for about an hour now. They get the job done, and I can't really complain. Like you, I also made a dedicated tuckable holster. I seem to prefer that one since its not as bulky. LMAO I guess comparing it to a thinner design will make it bulky no matter what.
  2. Need opinions please. I finally got around to making a tuckable kydex clip that will convert my holsters to tuckable. I was wondering what you all thought about them. I'm not sure I like them. They seem abit on the bulky side, but, maybe its just me.
  3. I found about 1/2 -1/3 of the little boxes in a gallon of water works. I let them soak for about 1 hour. Although, its not an exact science. The Vinegaroon smell should be gone when it comes out of the neutralizing solution.
  4. I do both. Depending on the holster. If the holster only has one clip I use two attachment points for it. If the holster has two clips it stays pretty secure with just one screw.
  5. I keep injuring my thumbs from pressing to hard. I've decided I can't wait any longer to get a set up like this. Is this the correct rubber pads to use http://www.mcmaster.com/#8633k63/=1zk09d... I found http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...Itemnumber=1666 on craigslist. Thank you guys soooooo much for posting this kind of information!
  6. I also like Herman Oak 6-7 oz. I have a piece of wicket and craig I just started to use, its nice but I'm still liking Herman Oak better.. I like the shoulders simply for the price, you get more scrap but I find I can use the scrap for other things so I don't mind. I like to dye mine before assembly. I've been experimenting with vinegaroon which I will use as a dye/stain after assembly.
  7. That looks really nice!!! I'm starting to use some sharkskin myself. I've only made a couple holsters with kydex clips and sharkskin trim on the leather so far. I don't see stitch lines on your loops, are they just glued?
  8. Aye, but will the head of a 8-32 screw fit inside the male end of a line 24 snap. For example, I'm currently using 6-32 screws and 6-32 t nuts and the head of a 6-32 screw fits just right in side the line 24 male snap and the DOT snaps. Sorry I wasn't very clear. THanks!!!
  9. Will 8-32 screws fit as well as 6-32 inside the snaps? I've been using DOT snaps and I noticed there is even less room then line 24s.
  10. Nice! I paid $45 for mine from Tuffcase. I did my own art work too.
  11. I use http://www.mcmaster.com/#90975a007/=1aiyfi I blue mine with http://www.birchwoodcasey.com/sport/bluein...=1&subcat=5\ If you find them in black somewhere. Please let me know I would love to buy them instead of blueing them.
  12. Very nice work. You offer allot of different designs. I see a couple different things that catch my eye that would concern me. I must point out I am also new at this. 1) Your draw retention device. I would suggest putting something in the holster while wet molding to create a thicker pocket opening. I use a wooden dowel between 1/4-3/8" thick... 2) Your throat reinforcements appear to come to a point far from the stitch line. It looks like they may peal up from normal wear. If you just trim that point back a little closer to the stitch line it would be perfect. I really like some of your designs, you have a good thing going! keep it up!!!
  13. I used Mop and Glow on my boots when I was in Air Force Tech school... That stuff would put on a glass like shine it was great for saving time. Although it would crack if you got it to far from the heal and toe. I would not recommend it for holsters. Atleast i wouldn't use it on one of mine.
  14. I found this on using vacuum bags. It's reply # 14 http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php?topic=5106.new I may have to try it out.
  15. Thank you denster. I saw that thread. I'm not convinced that my drill press would hold up very long applying a force perpendicular to the shaft, especially with the leverage that the rosewood dowel would provide. I've tried using my homemade oak dowel in my drill press, they are about half as long as the rose wood one, and my drill press starts to make funny noises.
  16. I'm looking to find a more efficient way to burnish my holsters. I currently use various wooden dowels on the end of a dremel tool. I get mixed results, sometimes it works great and other times I have to fight with it. I've been looking into a couple options. 1) http://cgi.ebay.com/Motorized-Fantastic-Le...tem320353692769 2)http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/disp...temnumber=38515 I would have to get a piece of wood and cut the grooves into it for option 2. Any other options or better way of doing it? Anyone here use option 1?
  17. WOW... Those are really nice. If I had a 1911, if I could afford to spend the money on a 1911 atm, I would be trying to make a set exactly like you did. Very nice work!!!
  18. CH3CH2OH helps you forget about the box you are suppose to be thinking in called reality. The only problem is knowing what ideas are practical. Good Stuff!
  19. I came up with a crazy idea the, “Gat in the Hat”, a simple baseball cap that holds a really small gun like a single shot 410. Someone tells you to put your hands on your head, sure thing buddy. :D Care to share you under the influence ideas?!?!
  20. Great topic! I'm subscribed!!! I just started doing this, and I'm only planing on doing this part time to help get me through school and for fun after that. At the same time I wouldn't mind investing in some insurance. I would hate to lose my assets because of some ignorant idiot who shot himself in the foot/leg holstering a gun with a trigger shoe in a holster designed for a stock gun.
  21. I'm still experimenting with vinegaroon, however, I haven't had that problem. I soak the holster in the vinegaroon for 2-3 hours then in the baking soda mix 2-3 hours then fresh water. Then I let it dry for 24 hours and wet mold it. Considering how much of a PITA it is to dye them black with regular dye, this way is allot faster and easier. I'm hoping once my vinegaroon mix gets stronger It won't take hours to do its thing.
  22. I've never used Eco Flo dyes. Whenever I dye anything black I end up getting allot of rub off, so I would guess what you are experiencing is normal. For a belt I would use vinegaroon. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?s...p;hl=vinegaroon
  23. I use resoline in a 50/50 h2o dip. As already stated Air brushing works good too. Instead of removing the finish you could just apply another coat or two and see if it will even out.
  24. I use DOT fastners from http://www.dotfastenersdirect.com/ or the Line 24 snaps from Tandy.
  25. I found an Ebay add and it looks like this guy is making one holster from the Bluegun in my previous post to fit all of these guns. Will this one bluegun really make holsters for all these? I copied and pasted out of his ebay add.
