Hey all, I have the opportunity to buy a consew 118 for a really good price. I've tried looking online everywhere but it doesn't seem to have much on it. I was wondering if anyone has had success with it and what are its limits. I am planning on sewing things between two layers of 8oz up to 10oz. If it can't do the two layers of 10oz in fine with hand stitching those. Also using 138 and the next one up like 201 I think thread. If its not what I'm thinking then what would be a good alternate. I know the consew 206rb is a really capable machine but I haven't found one at a good price for me.

Hello. I'm taking on a fire bucket as well and wanted to know if you received any useful information. Any guidance you could give me? Weight in leather, sewing techniques, or sealing?

This one is for a family friend's fire department as a one off for a future benefit. Their idea is to use them in a relay race, so they would need to be functional.

Thank you. I have seen on mugs to butt them together and cross stitch together. I was wondering if it would be better to skive both ends about an inch or so, glue the surfaces and then do a double stitch or so. I can see your idea of putting a strip over the seam working too.

So recently I have been asked to make a fire bucket. For you that do not know, they were leather buckets used back before modern times to carry water to the fire in a line commonly referred to as the bucket brigade. So my first question is has anyone tried to make one? I have the general idea on how to make it, I would just like to hear from others who would like to share insite. Second question what materials or techniques would I use. Obviously I would need thicker leather. I'm use to using 7-8 oz for holsters and things alike. Would I need to step it up to a 10-12? I also have heard since this will be holding water, that the sewing techniques and sealing will become a big factor. I would like some guidance here please. Thank you Tyler

I'd say the cowboy 4500 is a high quality machine, if it wasn't then it wouldn't be $1500+. I actually buy leather from Springfield Leather, I will have to check out their machines. Thank you for that tip. I hand sew right now, I'm fine with it but I know I could produce a finer product if I had a machine. Thank you for your input.

As the title states, I'm looking for my fist sewing machine. I am looking for something that can handle holster so up to 7 to 8 oz. double layered in some spots. I do not have much in the budget to get a brand new one or a top notch Consew, Juki, or Singer. So second hand would be fine and somewhere around 300 is where I want to be. I am also fine with just a head from a table mounted. But most important it needs to be operational, or maybe a inexpensive part away from being operational. Any help would be awesome.

I know this is an old post, but a shot in the dark. Is any machines available? Singer? Is it operational?

Could you let one go for around 300? I'm new and looking for a machine to upgrade. I'll take one for a discount that would need parts if you told me what to get. Just looking for a machine that won't break my bank.
