  1. thanks Glenn, you cannot see it because it blends into the cabinet behind but it does have the drawer. I found it in a box of stuff the seller gave to me. Thanks for the paint idea. The foot rotation does not want to loosen up. I’ve been giving it the wd-40 and turning it around but it isn’t changing. Actually it gets worse at times. It doesn’t help I’m not sure what it should be like but I’m sure it shouldn’t be as tight as it is and shouldn’t get tighter at times. Any advice.
  2. Another thing I’m not sure how to fix without decreasing character and value is the rust on the lower step of the table. Assuming there is no Adler green paint I thought to just cut a thin rubber mat to cover it. What would y’all do?
  3. What is ‘good’ penetrating fluid? I’ve been putting oil down there and it seems to get a little better but goes back to sticky after a bit of spinning the wings.
  4. Newly acquired minty 30-70 is sticky in the foot rotation. Much of the rotation is fairly ok but definitely seems it should turn much easier and smoother. Normally I dive right in and disassemble things but feel a bit intimidated by this one. So my question is how to get the rotating parts out for cleaning?
  5. I’m trying to adjust this machine but the manual has a little blind spot that I’m hoping someone can help with. There are apparently two types of needle bars those with timing marks and those without. Mine - without. The manual gives a measurement (3/32” ) to raise the bar from it’s lowest point in order to set the needle bar height. This is, I believe, the upper mark on the needle bar that is lined up at the bottom of the needle bar rocker frame. . Now in the next section for hook timing the manual doesn’t give a measurement but rather says use the lower of the two beedle bar marks. Does anyone know the neasurement between the two timing marks on the beedle bar in question?
  6. I’m seeking thoughts on a Durkopp 541. I need a machine that will sew a couple layers of skived 8-9 oz chrome tan plus a couple layers of 2-2.5 oz. Is this a dinosaur that will be a problem when it comes to parts? The manual is vague on thread sizes but it seems that it is limited to pretty small. I need 135 as a minimum would sure like to be able to use 207. The price is nice but i really don’t want to get strapped to another tedious situation like the Pfaff 145 I’m working on. Just need something to get going on to fund a Cobra 26. Was saving and was almost there and then it seems, unless I am mistaken, the price on the Cobras jumped. Appreciate any insight y’all can offer.
  7. Rhale. Thanks for that. That’s close to what I’m after but i’d like both sides flat.
  8. Does anyone know where to find a flat side awl haft like a tandy 3318-01 but larger?
  9. I was given this Pfaff machine and am trying to get the bugs worked out. The parts order is nearly complete but cannot decipher the vibrating foot part number . The subclass parts list has it as 91-040 474-93. However, there are -4, -5, -6, -8 options. The subclass parts list also shows a square with a '4' and another square with a '12/2'. i don't see an explanation for the boxed numbers. I need help understanding the difference between these different feet and if one is specific to this machine or are they specific to the material to be sewn. thanks!! Michael
  10. Maybe someone could recommend what size McKay (jerk) needle i should buy for Nyltex?
  11. Can someone help with what size Nyltex waxed thread is? Thank you!! Michael
  12. Thanks for the connection. I haven’t been able to get to talk to Luke but another gal took my information and is supposed to call me back. I am having a bit of trouble understanding the parts list. My machine an 145 H4 and I don’t see that listed on the pages. What pages do I use for my machine?
  13. Appears the inner foot bar is bent at the foot mounting stub. Is straightening these commonly done or is replacement the only way to go?
  14. Alright, a little progress... i remove the outer foot bar and it is definitely bent although not as I would have expected. It is bent at the top of the bar. Removing the inner foot bar seems a bit more involved so will study that a bit today. I did quick search and easily found a replacement for the outer bar but the the inner seems a bit scarce. Can anyone help with a US source for these bars?
  15. So that did help move the needle to the right a little but did not improve the relationship between the needle and vibrating foot. actually both feet appear to be too far to the right.
  16. Danishman, Thanks for the suggestion.. I do have a manual and used it to make all the adjustments. Quite a learning process. I looked over the presser feet and they seem to be tool steel hardness and likely very hard to bend. At this point I'm doubting bent presser feet. Check out the photo below. Wondering if the machine was dropped or severely mishandled at some point and the presser foot bars might be bent. Possible?? Does the foot lifter look bent or is that how they look - bent off at a slight angle? how do I check the straightness of the presser foot bars? Disassemble? I saw mention, somewhere, of a disassembly manual. Is that real thing? So want to get to sewing.
  17. JJN, that’s a very cool offer. Let me first check with my friend over the hill to see what his looks like. There are three of use here who apprenticed under the same teacher and have good relates.
  18. Hey there. I’m in Roseburg. I did try a couple needles and they looked the same. I don’t have any other feet but have grown quite suspicious, like you, that feet/foot might be the issue. I guess i need to get my hands on one a see what happens. There are a couple others in out community. I looked one yesterday but the inner foot is a different style than mine. Will try to see the other one soon. If the feet are the same type maybe i can borrow them to check.
  19. Yes,sir. Just checked and the guide is tight to the NB rocking frame and the rocking frame and pin are all the way to the right. While looking at those things, it does seem the inner foot is sitting off to the right. Not centered in the outer foot. Not sure it is enough off to put the needle back in the center of the hole but offering more info. Can be seen in the second photo.
  20. Hello, new here and first time poster. I was a shoe making apprentice 15 years ago but kids and life got me off track. Now the kids are grown and i am wanting to try and get back to the most enjoyable ‘making’ I’ve ever done. I was given a pfaff 145 by a brother apprentice and have cleaned and figured out (i think) all the adjustments. However, there is an issue with either the needle or foot. The needle hits the center of the feed dog but is way off center (L/R) with the inner foot. Before I start disassembling, I thought I might should ask advice to determine the most likely source of the problem and approach to determine and repair. So excited to get to work but have to get this straightened out. Thanks in advance for any help y’all are willing to offer. I’ll try to post a photo.
