I purchased a cobra class 4 from Leather machine company, I love it!!! the service is great, the machine is wonderful, I have a customer that wants a little wallet out of napa calf skin, was wondering if I could sew it on my Monster, and what would be the smallest needle and thread I could use. been working leather off and on for 40 years, but just got a sewing machine. 14. actually, the machinist came up with a blade holder, that can hold up to 12 blades, blades or spacers, designed it so that it can have up to 12 points, or spacers to keep the points to a minimum, easily changed, the holder will fit in a standard swivel knife. The holder is going to be about 1/2 inch wide, with a two piece collett, held together with ring outside, and will hold the blades secure for carving. The only problem is that to place the order it requires a run of 200 pieces. I am impressed with the design, but do not have pictures yet. it will be made of 303 Stainless Steel and will use an Exacto "type" #16 blade. it looks like we can sell the blade holder for about $22 roughly to cover the costs which will include a set of blades and 4 spacers. or we can sell a complete knife with ball bearing handle for $85 plus shipping. thanks Rickmc
  15. I am actually meeting with a machinist tomorrow again to discuss the multiblade tool using #16 xacto type blades, I will have a quote from him to make them , he said the most expensive one will be the prototype, then his computer programmed milling machine can build them in mass production. I will know more tomorrow, if I can get them made, is there anyone interested in having one of them? which would you rather have stainless, aluminum, or brass? 12 blades, 14 blades, 15 blades,16 blades, with the possiblity to reduce the number with spacers, held in with allen threaded bolts behind a knurled nut, how about just a blade setup that can be put into a standard swivel knife handle? or an option for a cheap handle? or a quality ball bearing handle? I hope that my idea is workable, it may not look like you suppose, however, I promise that form will follow function. just need suggestions and opinions. Rickmc
  16. Tandy also sell Peter Main's book on the The Al and Ann Stohlman personal patterns portfolio volume one, which has over 20 pages of oak leaf patterns some exclusively for belts. we truly owe Peter Main a great debt of gratitude for his work on keeping Al and Ann's stuff in print. RickMc
  17. my daughter went to the Local Tandy leather factory and for 4 weekends took a class from a Tony Filhart, on embosssing, here is her final project, not bad for a 14 year old and her first leather carving. of course I am very biased. she said comments are welcomed. her Name is Trinity. Rickmc
  18. In the video by Rob Barr, his paw prints were not cut, they were pear shaded in, that way he explains that it looks like the were stepped on not cut in. the claw were beveled in without a swivel knife cut either. Rick McCarty
  19. Here is the sheath that I am using, and oh by the way, FORCE FIT IS NOT A GOOD IDEA LOOK AT THE SECOND PICTURE
  20. Hiloboy, did you have to modify the handle or could it hold the 4 blades? Rickmc
  21. thanks for all your help, whinewine, I really appreciate your suggestions and know that you sacrificed precious time to help, as all of you have. I tried this and here is my first attempt, I took a piece of black walnut, turned it on my lathe and drilled the hole in the end, unfortunately, I did not have the right bit, so it took 15 blades to fill in the hole that I made, I used exacto #16 blades. I used JB Weld to hold them in, and yes it was difficult to have all of the align perfectly. I actually used a pencil underneath the curve on the blade to align them and held the handle down with a small c-clap until it dried. Please tell me what you think.
  22. clayb, I would love to have his number, I will also try to use the dowl pen, I appreciate all of your responses, Many thanks RickMc
