  1. update to this post. A second technician came out the very next day and was able get the stitch length to around 8 per inch. He adjusted the pinch screw at the arrow. He said he could get even less stitches to the inch but that I would lose reverse stitch length. I sewed yesterday and would like to have that 6 stitches per inch. Would it be safe to try some adjustments at that location? Does it have a name? Regards Yello Bird
  2. I had a repairman out to the house today to fine tune my machine after I've taken it as far as I could. But.. he wasn't able to get the stitch length to increase from a minimum of 9. 5 per inch. The machine will sew 30 per inch and 10 per inch and that's all we can get. He's been repairing for thirty years. At the factories here in NC. He thought that maybe what he called "stitch regulator" (see photo of Singer 211 label J1 (my machine is similar) ) is worn out. My Consew is a very very used machine. He also said that the part isn't available. I looked up the 6 or so consew part numbers and 5/6 are listed at my parts supplier bit those parts are maybe 450$. Does anyone have any ideas on how to rehab this "stitch regulator"? Or any other things to try? Thanks in advance! Yello Bird
  3. Many thanks 64Poncho! The button was seized but it's all operable now. Perfect.
  4. I'm checking out some hirose hooks and the one for my machine I put a blue mark next to. Does anyone know of any of that others can be used? Consew 255. "U" Bobbin. This photo is from the large shaft hsh 12-15mm section.
  5. Cowboy Bob and Constabulary many thanks. I believe I've got it sorted. I'm missing some parts. Uwe's videos are a great resource.
  6. Hi, can anyone help with fixing my Consew 255? I just put in a new tension release rod but the tension slide in the back of the machine doesn't engage it. It seems there is a groove worn into the tension release slide (or whatever has been substituted for a proper slide. The present tension release slide is either a made up one or is missing some material. There is also no tension release spring that I can see. I plan to take this down soon and am hoping for some guidance here. The replacement tension release slide doesn't look like what is in my machine but matches to the parts catalog number.
  7. Thanks guys. That new unit altogether at 34$ seems like a win. The listing includes caliper measurements and they match. Edit: the clutch reset button is inoperable. What parts am I missing? Is it possible to reset the clutch without the button?
  8. Hi, this is a Consew /Seiko 255 that I'm close to using for the first time. I did replace the timing belt and thank the members for their help in answering my questions. The photo arrows show welding that was done purposely to disable the clutch. When questioned the seller said it was common in factories to to this. Should I try and rebuild/repair the clutch or just be careful to stop when the hook binds? I have a servo motor and will be going slow at first anyway. And if I did repair/rebuild the clutch, what parts do you think I could salvage from the existing one?
  9. This mangled screw and spring remnant was behind the thread tension assembly area. Can anyone id it for me?
  10. Kgg, thanks for the link. I have those instructions. The timing belt can't possibly fit through the gap with just the bearing sleeve removed. I need a larger hole so I'm thinking that the bearing adapter had to come out also. See photo. YB
  11. Hi, New to forum and I bought a bargain to sew some canvas and leather chafe gear for my sailboat. I bought it as a Consew 255 RB. Any suggestions appreciated. Rough day today trying to put a new belt on. Almost there but the last "adaptor bearing sleeve " won't come free to allow me room for the new belt insert. My bearing puller can't get behind it. Used a lot of butane and still can't get it the rest of the way. Should I try acetylene? Even the pulley wheel took a lot of effort on a frozen set screw. The bearing came out with a drift and a puller but the adapter sleeve that the bearing fits into needs more work. TIA Yello Bird Oak Ridge NC
  12. @suzelle, I'm new to sewing and just purchased a similar sewing machine head and have many questions. Is it appropriate to ask here or should I start a new thread? I read the rules of posting and I'm not sure. The machine was sold as a 255rb but it's a Seiko lsw 8bl I think, but it may not matter bc they may be the same? Does your machine have a safety clutch? Mine does not and I'm wondering about what I will experience without a safety clutch. Regards Yello Bird (my boats name bc my name was already being used here)
