I work with Scouts mostly on small projects. I have at most 4 hours to complete all the requirements for the Leatherwork Merit badge. The 1st hour or so is discussions on various related topics and tool demonstrations. So 3 hours is the time they have to complete their projects. Including hand sewing. What can I do to really speed up the drying time between tooling then dying then applying top coat then sewing. There is definitely not enough time to allow the proper time for each of these steps. I normally use Saddle Lac because it dries super fast but if I teach in California I'm not sure I can use it since it's not available for sale there. I've been using the Tandy Professional dyes instead of the All-in-One type of finishes because of the color options. I live in Las Vegas and can leave it in the sun after each step. But there are issues if the weather isn't cooperating, especially if it's windy, and I use fans for indoor classes. I'm wondering about other options available no matter how crazy. Here are some ideas I'm spitballing: Microwave Convection oven Food dehydrator Warming mats like the kind used when starting seeds in the winter Heat lamps or heat emitters like the ones used for reptiles Build something that uses a combination of 2 or more of the above. I don't have any idea how the leather would react to any of the above ideas. We don't want to end up with leather that gets too hard or curls too much I'd like to get you opinions along with any additional ideas you have. Thanks, Dale
Anyone interested in trading leather stamps? I'm not looking to sell anything. Just trade. I'm looking for multiples of all the Boy Scout, Cub Scout, Girl Scout, O.A. and Wood Badge Leather Stamps. Plus a lot more. Our Council has at least 5 sets of leather stamps I'm trying to add to. Four of the sets are smaller and loaned out to MB Counselors and used in CS Day Camps. The fifth stays at the Council and I'm trying to get as many different stamps as I can for it. I also want to have an extra or two of some stamps, especially the Scout stamps since we do occasionally lose one here and there. I have around 275 different 2D/3D leather stamps with a total over 750. Attached are 2 PDF files. One for The Leather Stamps I Want and the other is Extra Leather Stamps I Have. Most trades, I'm willing to give at least 2 of my stamps for each one of yours. Many I will give more and some a lot more. Especially for the red and yellow ones in my list. I want the trades to be fair for both of us. The stamps I have are in great condition and I would like the same from you. If you would like to donate any leather stamps and/or tools, instead of trading, it would be most appreciated. All donated stamps and tools go directly to the Las Vegas Area Council. I'm NOT looking to get these stamps so I can resell them. They are for use with Scouts and other Youth Groups only. I will eventually have to sell the extras I currently have, but I really hate selling on ebay which is why I haven't done it yet. I am posting this on several forums so some stamps may not be available. Contact me with what you have and which stamps you want for them. I will try to get photos soon, but most likely won't get to it until after Christmas. Thanks, Dale 12 21 2019 Extra Leather Stamps.pdf 12 21 2019 Leather Stamps Wanted.pdf
I started collecting the 2D/3D stamps more than 15 years ago. I have identified 778, possibly 779, stamps issued by Craftool, Midas/Ivan, The Leather Factory and Scouts. I am down to the last 5 that I need to complete my personal set. If you have any of these please contact me ASAP. Notes: There were 2 slightly different Midas 8262 Armadillo stamps issued. I need the top one and not the bottom one. Read the text to the right of the other 4 stamps. I do not have photos of the 3 Scout stamps. They were sold only through the BSA but the actual image is probably identical to the corresponding Craftool stamps. I am just trying to collect them all, even though they are duplicates of other stamps. Thanks, Dale
