Hi everyone, I recently purchased some Epsom leather for making watch straps and when I tried hot-creasing the edges, it burned/melted the surface even at a very low temperature. Is this normal for specialty leathers like Epsom or is this a sign the leather may not be the best quality?

Have looked through many posts but not really had any success in my quest I don't wont to use paints etc on the edges, so need to bring that option up Using very fine about 1mm chrome leather similar to furniture leather, looking to treat the edges without using paints, have tried Gum Trag with limited success and the same with bees wax but is there a better way like heat tools etc Tried creasing with double pronged creaser, and heat, works well with veg tan but hardly a mark with Chrome is it a case of more heat?

I have been asked many times to produce a DVD of the skills I use and teach here in the workshop. It is a very good idea, but given the audience I reach is global, the shipping will often cost more than the DVD. Also, it would mean multiple DVD's to get all the skills in. So... I settled on an online tutorial channel on Vimeo, in the long run you will get far more from it. It is still at the early stages but videos are being added frequently, at a rate of 4 a month. The cost is £2:99 a month irrelevant of the quantity of videos on the channel, whether it be 25 or 250, it will always be £2:99. I have a current working list of videos to make of 124, this grows as people ask for specific techniques to be shown. The idea is to look at each technique as a standalone practice piece to be brought together when attempting a project. Up until now, I have shown you how to work through a project whilst not paying enough attention to the specific skills used. This should help with that. Enjoy Nigel Armitage

I purchased some Sedgwick bridle butt from Abby Leather. It is a beautiful looking piece. My problem is putting a crease in it. I am very new to leather working. I have no problem with creasing veg tan leather. The Sedgwick has the wax finish and water doesn't penetrate it. When I crease it the line is very light. I used a Osborn wooden creaser. I am a little nervous to use the swivel knife on a long straight line. I am doing belts, I forgot to mention that. I live in NJ USA, that leather as you all know is not cheap. I do have an adjustable creaser from Tandy, I heated it a bit, it didn't do any better then the wooden one. Thank you, Jim

I'm new and struggling with when and how to bend and fold leather when making items such as a wallet. Only tried using water after tooling is done and item has dried. But wrinkles and stretch marks still show up. Also tried cutting small groove on back side with water combination. Still stretch marks. They are more pronounced after staining. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
