Members Sheilajeanne Posted Saturday at 04:20 PM Members Report Posted Saturday at 04:20 PM (edited) Soo, it rained heavily last night, and currently the temperature is 10 C/50 F! We have both a rainfall advisory, due to all the rain and melting, and a fog advisory. Last time we got significant fog, there was a huge pileup on the 401 east of Toronto. Be careful out there! Yesterday the township was cleaning out the catch basins in town to prepare for this. Very happy to have some springlike temperatures, though I may want to invest in a pair of rubber boots! Members Darren8306 Posted yesterday at 06:35 AM Members Report Posted yesterday at 06:35 AM A pal just dropped off some gear that I will deliver to her a few days in to her trip. She is doing a xski trip, following an ancient trail. She will haul a toboggan, and has 45 days to make over 700km. I don't know all the details, but there is a local filmographer raising funds to support more coverage. I am going to go to Frank Channel bridge to drop her supplies and take any excess gear. She is following a traditional route called the Idaa Trail, and has a special interest in local indigenous history and culture. I, on the other hand, am simply impressed with the planning and committment. Which, when you think about it, was the impressive part of the traditional users, too. Quote

Members Sheilajeanne Posted 14 hours ago Members Report Posted 14 hours ago Cool! And like your vintage cast iron, too. I could never get the hang of conditioning mine so things didn't stick. Quote

I could never get the hang of conditioning mine so things didn't stick. I've tried it several times, but the key failure seems to be prep. Though when I clean it VERY well, it still fails if used incorrectly. So soap is bad, scrubbies are bad, and cooking some sticky things seems to be bad. It isn't that hard to recondition, so I just do that every year or three. It's more fun to use, now that I've made leather handles. Quote

She had cornrows installed for the trip, and has borrowed a big, bully-ish sled dog for company. Lot of dogfood to bring along, but on the other hand, he can pull more than most dogs. Quote

The Continental Divide Trail runs through our town, so we see a lot of these types of folks. We also get bikers and hikers going east and west. Being right on i 80, you never know what or who you will see.
