MackProvisions Report post Posted May 25, 2022 Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum. I would appreciate some help! I recently purchased a Singer 44-30. It's intended to do light leather (very light). All I can find online is the parts manual. I'm looking to find the actual manual to confirm needle size. I pulled the existing one out and it reads "BEKA 100/16". I'm assuming that's a 135x7....? Any help would be great. All the best, KC Mack Owner, Mack Provisions www.mackprovisions.com @mackprovisions
CowboyBob Report post Posted May 25, 2022 A 16x2 should work.
shoepatcher Report post Posted May 27, 2022 the singer book say it uses Singer Needle number # 2210-71. That is needle system #2220 which I have no idea what that one is. Go with Bob's suggestion. glenn
Constabulary Report post Posted May 27, 2022 (edited) The 44 seems to be the short bed version of the Singer 31 / 31K. So I would go that route when looking for a manual. Major difference IMO is the bed size and the 44-30 seems to have a roller foot everything else IMO is like the Singer 31 / 31K. Major difference IMO is the bed size and the 44-30 seems to have a roller foot everything else IMO is like the Singer 31 / 31K. You're spot on - it's a short bed version of the 31's. It's actually the same dimensions as my 95-40. I can swap out heads no problem. The 95-40 takes 88x1 and just by comparing the needles to each other I know 88x1's are not going work. I'm not sure what 31 machines use? 16x87...?
Constabulary Report post Posted May 28, 2022 I do not know the Singer 95-40 but 88x1 is a short serger needle - or not? Aren´t the Singer 95 / 96 and 31 using system 16 needles ex factory? I think the system 16 needles all have the same length. If it was me I would check if is possible to use the same needle in both machines (lets say System 16). Maybe you just have to adjust the needle bar height a little bit.
