Restoring old leather cushions

Hello Leatherworkers,

I am completely new here and also with leatherwork ':). 

Hope I did post my question in the right section. 

I have two old leather cushions that I want to restore and give them back some shine. There are a lot of black stains on. Looks like ink but I am not sure. There is also a small hole on the back of one of the cusions. And overall they are just dirty and really dry. 

I am looking for tips how to clean the leather and make the leather soft and shiny again. tried with shoe products but that didn't really help.

with out seeing any pictures its hard to say but i would start with saddle soap. read and follow the directions.
