DaveP Report post Posted October 13, 2022 How do you wrap a tool with leather? Specifically leather wrapping stitching irons/ chisels. I have Kevin Lee stitching chisels and they have a taper to them. I have seen them on different adds on a hobby site. What thickness leather would you use? Thinnest I have is some black veg tan 2-3 oz. What stitch would you use? Thank again
sbrownn Report post Posted October 13, 2022 I think 2-3 oz. is too thick.
Bert03241 Report post Posted October 14, 2022 personally I would not wrap stitching Irons in leather, altho they may look nice I think that it would make them awkward to use.JMHO
xnikolaos Report post Posted October 14, 2022 (edited) I use 2-3oz maximum (0,7-1,2mm) cow Chrome tanned leather for shoe uppers ( a bit hard) or napa leather (very soft), same thickness. Both have enough elasticity and needle (double hole) strength for this type of work. Professionals like wood feeling. I'm an amateur from Greece.
