ddiuni Report post Posted June 5, 2023 hello. I have a singer 46k15 sewing machine. The timing wasn't right, so I got the timing right. However, when I turned the balance wheel counterclockwise, sewing did not work. So, I turned the balance wheel clockwise and it started sewing. However, there is a motor installed, but the motor was installed to rotate counterclockwise. The question here is... Is 46k15 originally set to be sewn when turned clockwise? I don't know this part. Under the section Hints in the manual " In operating the machine always turn the wheel from you." From that statement I would assume the hand-wheel turns in the clockwise direction. Constabulary Report post Posted June 5, 2023 So far all fur sewing machines I have seen run clockwise meaning truing the hand wheel away from you. KGG already mentioned it - see section HINTS (page 7) In operating the machine always tum the wheel from you. you also have a hint on top of page 6 when operating the machine the balance wheel should turn from you. You can change the the rotation direction of certain sewing machine motors. Your Singer motor looks like what we call an "Anlasser Motor" in Germany. I think you have a stack of metal prongs in it that make contact when you push down the lever on the right / the foot pedal. The more prongs make contact the faster the motor runs. But it also could be that is has some sort of rheostat. On most motors of this type you can change wiring and instructions for that are inside the motor near the wire terminal plate or the stack of metal prongs / the rheostat. By "turning the balance wheel away from you" you meant clockwise. Then the motor that was previously installed may have been installed incorrectly. In this motor, there is a connection jack as shown in the picture below. The connection part is missing or not. I think it's probably a connection jack that connects to the switch. Right now I can't change the rotation direction of the motor, so I'll have to change it to a servo motor or take some time to figure out how to change it. Thanks for the detailed explanation. Constabulary Report post Posted June 5, 2023 Your motor is very old. Not sure how safe it is to run it. Some wires may have a brittle isolation or so due to the age. Servo motors are the better option if you are not familiar with electrical wiring and you usually can change the rotation direction in the motor menu. Honestly better buy a servo motor. I agree with @Constabulary that this motor is not safe and should be replaced with what in North America is generally referred to as a Universal sewing machine motor or a servo motor. Perhaps, as you said, there was a problem, so I cut the line. First of all, I plugged in the connection jack of the singer motor at home and tried to drive it, but the motor runs normally. Perhaps the clutch motor is loud and has problems with stability, so it would be better to replace it with a servo motor because of stability problems like your opinion. So what is the use of the existing clutch motor? Anyway, I'll have to get a servo motor from Ali Express. Thanks to both of you for commenting on the uncertain safety of motors. dikman Report post Posted June 5, 2023 I agree about the potential safety with the motor. I had a couple of very old Singer motors and scrapped both of them, given their age I didn't know what condition the wiring and insulation was like inside. I replaced them with servos.
