Should I repair/rebuild this clutch?

Recommended Posts

Hi, this is a Consew /Seiko 255 that I'm close to using for the first time. I did replace the timing belt and thank the members for their help in answering my questions. The photo arrows show welding that was done purposely to disable the clutch. When questioned the seller said it was common in factories to to this. Should I try and rebuild/repair the clutch or just be careful to stop when the hook binds? I have a servo motor and will be going slow at first anyway. And if I did repair/rebuild the clutch, what parts do you think I could salvage from the existing one? Screenshot_20230713_164042_Gallery.jpg.2137e7f2b9ccae3b28df394e290a097c.jpg

I wouldn't count on salvaging any of the existing parts. I would replace all the safety clutch parts with new parts if they can be tracked down. You are going to have everything apart anyway.

If you don't have a parts list here is a pdf of the parts manual.

Thanks guys. That new unit altogether at 34$ seems like a win. The listing includes caliper measurements and they match. Edit:  the clutch reset button is inoperable. What parts am I missing? Is it possible to reset the clutch without the button?

Looks like the ratchet wheel needs to be moved over to line up with the button. Make sure the set screw lines up with the groove in the shaft. You should be good to go!

Many thanks 64Poncho! The button was seized but it's all operable now. Perfect.
