Bobbin tension spring trouble

Recommended Posts

Trying to dial in my Seiko CW-8B-2 for some lighter veg tan work and running into issues with my bobbin tension. Any advice for loosening bobbin tension adjustment screw? Can’t seem to be able to back it off at all, wondering if I should look at getting a new bobbin case and spring?

Sometimes you can take it out and bend it until it works, but takes removing and installing it a few times to get it just right.  Not a bad idea to just order another one though, so you have one either way.

Make sure your screw driver really fits the tiny screw slot. If the screw is seized / gummed with old oil apply heat with a heat gun and try again. Or try a micro gas blow torch or a blow torch pen.

Thanks for the suggestions, I’ll give it a whirl and order a case and spring ‘just in case’ .

I've read gunk & grime can build up behind the spring & limit the spring tension on the bobbin.
