My Italian made leather couch finish is peeling of in 3 spot areas only.

Recommended Posts

We bought this Italian couch a year ago and have strictly followed the care maintenance advice given by the retailer, which involves using a damp cloth that has been wrung out to clean it. We have never used any conditioners or substances to keep the couch looking new. The manufacturer suggests that it could have been a substance on the cloth or lotion from our bodies causing the issue. I believe dryness may have led to the peeling. Any advice on what could have caused this and recommendations for conditioners and leather kits for this couch would be appreciated.

To better describe the peeling... It's not chunks of leather coming off, it's like old skin being left behind, just like snakes do.

Thank you.

Since you've refrained from using conditioners or substances, it's possible that the leather has lost some of its natural oils, leading to the peeling you're experiencing. In this case, using a high-quality leather conditioner could help replenish the oils and restore moisture to the leather, potentially preventing further peeling.

If the issue persists or worsens despite your efforts, it might be worth contacting the manufacturer or the retailer again to discuss possible warranty coverage or further troubleshooting steps.

The couch might be actually made out of split leather that has a synthetic finish. I think that's what's peeling off
