Herbie Report post Posted August 19 (edited) This is the first time trying to use acrylic paint. This is a checkbook cover for my wife who loves sunflowers. I see plenty of problems with this but would like to hear any critiques of this piece. Thanks in advance, Frank Edited August 19 by Herbie spelling
fredk Report post Posted August 19 (edited) A bit of darker or lighter green in the centre line of the leaves, and a green wash over the sunflower to make its petals stand out from each other. A 'wash' is very diluted paint, almost like the water you washed the brush in, painted carefully along the petal lines Edited August 19 by fredk
dikman Report post Posted August 19 It looks pretty good to me , Herbie. What Fred suggested will tone it down a bit, but sometimes subtlety isn't necessarily needed.
fredk Report post Posted August 20 What I suggested should not tone it down but make the sunflower petals stand out, make them 'pop' as the phrase is

Chipster99 Report post Posted August 24 Looks good! Antiquing would give contrast and make everything stand out more.
