If you'd paint a small area on leather, do you seal the whole piece or just the area that is painted? It's a stupid question. 

I paint a name on a belt  Do I need to seal the whole belt

I seal the painted area and little bit around it

Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..

If all I'm stamping is a name on a belt and dye or paint the letters, I brush the sealer directly on them.

Was the belt tooled and sealed before?  If not, I would seal the whole belt.
