newstitch Report post Posted October 18 Hello fellow leatherworkers, I hope everyone is doing well! I’m currently doing some research on the types of sewing threads that leatherworkers use in their craft. I’m very interested in learning from the community and would love to hear about your preferences. If you have a moment, I’d be grateful if you could share some insights on the following: Where do you buy your sewing thread? Which brands do you prefer? How much or bobbins of thread do you typically use for your projects (monthly or per project)? How many different colors do you usually work with or have in your shop? What’s the typical price range you pay for your threads? What type of thread do you prefer (polyester, nylon, bonded, waxed etc.) and why? To give something back to this amazing community, I’d love to offer a free sample of high-quality European sewing thread that I’ll be introducing to the U.S. market soon. Our threads are produced in Europe using German chemicals to enhance sewing performance, ensuring durability and ease of use for leatherworkers. If you’re interested in receiving a sample, just drop me a message and I’ll gladly send one your way. Thanks so much for your time, and I’m looking forward to hearing your thoughts! I’m excited to contribute to this forum and learn from all of you. Warm regards, Onur
BlackDragon Report post Posted October 18 Are we talking about hand sewing or machine sewing? I'll answer for each one. Where do you buy your sewing thread? I usually buy my thread through whomever I may be making other purchases to save on shipping. Machine thread was was through Zack White Leather. Hand sewing thread was Amazon. Which brands do you prefer? Hand sewing Ritza 25 Tiger thread How much or bobbins of thread do you typically use for your projects (monthly or per project)? It really depends on the thread size. Machine thread I can use two bobbins in a day of 207. Much less of 69 thread. Hand sewing I use much less because I don't do much hand sewing anymore. How many different colors do you usually work with or have in your shop? Generally I will use Black, Brown, and White. If there's a special request I'll use any other color, at an up charge. What’s the typical price range you pay for your threads? Around $30 US for 16oz of bonded nylon 277. Around $10 for 50 meters of Ritza 0.6mm What type of thread do you prefer (polyester, nylon, bonded, waxed etc.) and why? Bonded nylon

Dwight Report post Posted October 19 Years ago I bought all my thread from Tandy . . . they sold a white thread and I don't know if it was poly or nylon . . . I think it was nylon . . . At any rate . . . I was using a Tippmann Boss then (that I still have) . . . and together they worked great. The thread was waxed . . . and at times it did kind of clog up the enterprise . . . but a quick cleaning and we were back in business. I'd love to find that again . . . I only use size 346 May God bless, Dwight

If you are interested for a free 1mm waxed thread and 1 mm braided thread for decorative stitching, please send me your shipping info. Have a great weekend! Mulesaw Report post Posted October 25 1) I buy my thread at Laederiet 2) I prefer Amann as brand, I use Serafil for machine work and Serabraid for handwork 3) Thread usage pr month: 5 yards of Serafil TEX 270, 20 yards of Serafil TEX 135, 20 yards of Serafil TEX 70, maybe 5 yards total of Serabraid TEX 380 or TEX 500. 4) Two colours mainly, black and white. with black being the most used colour. Occasionally some other colours in TEX 70 for zippers in riding boots. 5) 14$ for a spool of Serafil, and 45$ for Serabraid 6) Polyester and waxed polyester, (Serafil and Serabraid), it is a consistent quality and works well for my purposes. In addition I use a small amount of waxed linen thread to repair old objects. The colours used here are nature (off white), black and brown.
