Hey y'all. New to this forum but I've been leather working for awhile. I've never owned a machine and always hand stitched. I've been wanting to get a machine to make my bag making much faster. I found a Singer 211G165 with a table on Facebook Marketplace listed for $100. I've read a couple forums about the machine but it would be great if I could get some opinions on this machine and find out if its worth it and able to do what I need.

For context I make a lot of leather tote bags using 4-5 oz chrome tan leather. I also make a lot of wallets with thinner 2-5 oz veg tan. I really just want to make my production times much faster. I'm also interested in using canvas and other textiles.

I can provide more info if needed.

Thanks,

-Luke

Luke, there are a few threads on here about that machine. You might want to search for the 211G 165 under the Leather Sewing Machines topic.

.  Most of the comments/concerns relate to the machine not having a reverse

For $100 it's definitely worth it! At that price you should be able to afford to fit a servo motor. Of course, that assumes it's either working or at least fixable without too much effort if it's not. $100 is awfully cheap but worth looking into.

It's an upholstery-class machine, should have 3/8" under the feet, nominally uses #69 thread but may take #138, so a useful machine to have.

Machines wot I have - Singer 51W59; Singer 331K4; Seiko STH-8BLD; Pfaff 335; CB4500.

Chinese shoe patcher; Singer 201K (old hand crank)
