Members Mocivnik Posted December 11, 2024 Members Report Posted December 11, 2024 I've (ab)used some tools in my leatherworking "career" in past ~5 years, and I'm quite tired of buying bad tools, so I'd like to purchase new punch set (2-6mm, but more = better). Anyone can recommend a European seller, that sells proper tools? I've used something as on photo below, but it's pain in the butt to sharpen them. Also, I'd need an edge beveler, that would allow me to do edges as such. I got IvanLeather edge bevelers (1, 2, 3) but they take off too much of material to make such an edge. Quote
Members Chaoswolf Posted January 4 Members Report Posted January 4 I can highly recommend Tools and supplies for leather artisans - Leather Artisan Lab For the punch holes I don't have a recommendation for you. But I can recommend the edge beveler from Palosanto. It is not cheap but I think worth its money and you are able to change the blades. The tool creates an absolutely fine and even leather edge, even on soft chrome-tanned leather. Quote
Members Klara Posted January 4 Members Report Posted January 4 There is also Deco-Cuir in France: https://www.decocuir.com/ However, I just bought a set of punches from Aliexpress, the cheaper ones for hobbyist use (the seller stated so, he also has better quality for a lot more money) and am happy enough with it. I dare say all punches will get blunt over time and they are all a pain to sharpen... Quote
Members Cumberland Highpower Posted January 4 Members Report Posted January 4 (edited) What's the brand of the punch you pictured? It at least looks quality! Made in EU? Punches are not hard to sharpen at all, but you do need a belt sander and some practice/experience using it. (and a small ceramic stick to do a real good job). Most punches are designed to allow knock out clearance, so over time your punch will get slightly larger after dozens of sharpening sessions. I've been "tooling" up to make tools myself, but it's been a slow process. Only some prototype edgers/bevelers and screwdrivers so far. Holding out till I get a Super Mini Mill this spring, tired of old rusty, greasy cast iron......LOL Edited January 4 by Cumberland Highpower Quote
Members Chaoswolf Posted January 25 Members Report Posted January 25 In Germany we have a standard for almost everything! :D Punching irons are standardized according to DIN 7200. The company Connex, for example, manufactures them in Germany. Quote
