Members SR71 Posted 17 hours ago Members Report Posted 17 hours ago Hi there, I'm trying to find a very consistent method of keeping the edges of my dyed projects natural without the top dye showing through on the edge. I have done it properly (See the leather project at the bottom of the pic) but to do this I need very specific edge beveler that becomes dull quick and is so tricky to sharpen that I cannot use it. I'm wondering if theres any tips to make this process less of a hassle and much more consistent with any edge beveler. Many thanks! Quote

Members SR71 Posted 15 hours ago Author Members Report Posted 15 hours ago Yes! for example I have dyed this leather green but notice how on the top project you can see the green streaks. I would like to know a reliable and consistent way to keep these streak to a minimum, similar to the bottom project. I could just through dye the leather, making the leather edges green too but I personally don’t like the way this looks. Quote
Contributing Member fredk Posted 14 hours ago Contributing Member Report Posted 14 hours ago Cut your leather oversize, dye and assemble then cut through the layers with a knife to get the project size Wet your leather, as if casing it, apply the dye diluted 1:1. Put on multiple coats until you get the depth of colour you like. This will eliminate the streaks Quote
Members TomE Posted 13 hours ago Members Report Posted 13 hours ago Dye the pieces of leather then cut them to size to create a fresh edge, or buy drum dyed leather for these projects. Quote
