need patterns

Recommended Posts

I need 2 patterns, One is the pattern of Angel Wings....

The other pattern I am looking for is a Pattern for a Civil War era hat... the type the troops wore, north and south.

If anyone can help me out, I would be most grateful

Mike

Mike:

I'm not sure exactly what you have in mind for angel wings, but here is a sample of the sort of patterns that I have in my library. Most of what I have is simple black and white line drawings that I manipulate and adapt to my needs at the time. I have lots more wings in my computer at home. I'd be happy to have a look if you give some feedback as to what you're looking for. I'd also be happy to just send you (off list) all my wing patterns and let you see if anything works for you.

Sorry I wasnt more specific about the angel wings I am looking for. Here is a pic of one that I have, but there is no detail to it, and I am not of a creative mind to make it look good, what I made with it looks liek crap cause I dont know how to make it look good so something like this with detail would be awesome.

Thanks, Mike

YES! The Kepi is exactly what i was looking for, the post is very helpful!

Now, anyone have suggestions for doing this in leather instead of felt? I am looking for a look combining the Kepi and a motorcycle cap...

Thanks very much Dutchman

Hi wolvenstien,

I'm new here but I do know a bit about making hats out of leather. Being Canadian I'm not sure what a Kepi is but I believe it to be like a civil war rebel hat.

Anyways, here's a few pics of a rebel style biker hat that I make. If you need a pattern for this or any other of my hats....check out www.beaverslayer.com I'd be more than happy to e-mail you them. Also with easy to follow instructions.

Best Regards

Ken

The Kepi is also worn by the French Foreign Legion, among others.

I have a suede Kepi that I have worn extensively since 1979. Bought it at a leather shop on Pier 39 in San Francisco. I believe that they used a latigo for the bill, don't do that. When it gets around 90 here it gets soft, and droops down. It weighs about a pound total, and it gets really uncomfortable to wear during warmer weather-under 80 is best. I generally wear it now during the winter since I moved to the desert . When it is 100+ it is just too hot on the head, since it doesn't breath.

A suggestion would be to buy a cheap cloth one, and take it apart for a pattern. There were several variations on the Kepi, or Forage cap as it was also known. Some have a rather long upper section that flops to the front, while others were snugger fitting.

One other thing I would change is adding a sweat band in the front. Over the years, and lots of warmer weather, the sweat has rotted out the front some. I am going to cut the bad section out, and install a cloth type insert that will be removable to clean.

If I could figure out how to resize the pictures I would post them. Send me an email, and I will send them that way. They are around 2.4Mb each so you can see the details better.
