Members Einherj Posted Friday at 09:17 PM Members Report Posted Friday at 09:17 PM I bought this Pedersen 308 (identical to Junker & Ruh SD 28) leather stitching machine, but there is an issue: The needle hits somehow too far back, it hits the foot and the edge of the needle plate. I was thinking the needle has bent too much somehow, so I tried with 3 different needles, same issue. The plate has some damage, so it seems like the previous owner has had the same problem. I can't see a way to adjust the needle position forward. It would need to shift about 5 millimeters to not hit anything and clear the bobbin case too. Any ideas? Quote
Members Mulesaw Posted Saturday at 08:45 AM Members Report Posted Saturday at 08:45 AM My best suggestion is that the needles are wrong. There have been an international shortage of the correct needles for those machines, and my guess is that the previous owner tried to buy and use some non original needles from another outsole stitcher. Where are you located in the world? perhaps some member near you have an original needle that you could try. I recently bought a small pack of needles from @Jennihaemae They are cheap and the correct needles. I think that her post got moved to "sold" due to the date (the posts will automatically be moved there after a certain time) You could try to send her a message. Brgds Jonas Quote
Members Tastech Posted yesterday at 08:59 AM Members Report Posted yesterday at 08:59 AM @Einherj. The needle has no adjustment apart from the stitch length . Where the needle is fixed is solid and cant move therefore i conclude you have the wrong needle . The current wear marks could be as a result of deflection of the needle when re -stitching through existing holes like when doing a repair . However don't sweat it because new needles are available from here . https://www.leffler.com.au/pederson-needle-hvy-for-308-machine/ . This is the only source i know of . They are in Australia and they are reasonably priced . Become a member for a good discount . The needles are quite tough and last a while but i don't know for how much longer they will exist so get a few as spares . I occasionally sharpen mine with a small hand held diamond file . If stitching sole leather wet the leather beforehand. Quote

Each needle at $28.57 AUD ($26.23 CAD) and I thought paying $4.50 CAD for 794S size 250 was expensive. kgg Quote Juki DNU - 1541S, Juki DU - 1181N, Singer 29K - 71(1949), Chinese Patcher (Tinkers Delight), Warlock TSC-441, Techsew 2750 Pro, Consew DCS-S4 Skiver
Members Constabulary Posted yesterday at 06:21 PM Members Report Posted yesterday at 06:21 PM Way cool machine- really! I owned one but it did not suit my needs. I would not buy one again. Why - because why in the world should I pay $25-30 or one (1) needle? Chances are high that you break one and you better have a few spares on hand. Know what I mean? Depending on what you want to sew I would look for a an other model. Members Tastech Posted 16 hours ago Members Report Posted 16 hours ago @kgg, Thats $17 AUD if you are a member . I think its quite reasonable for a needle that needs to be specifically made to order and then bought in batches of 1000 only to sit on a shelf for 10 years or so. Landis goodyear welting machine needle cost me about the same and are prone to breaking more often . One of my supply reps once said to me after complaining about the cost of materials . Don't think of what it costs , think about the money it will make you . Fair point . My accountant said to me once after i complained about the amount of tax i have to pay . If you have to pay a lot of tax it means you made a lot of money That's good not bad . Compared to the time it takes to hand stitch as opposed to using the machine a $17 needle is fine by me . Quote
