Members Damas Posted December 31, 2025 Members Report Posted December 31, 2025 Hello All, I recently had the opportunity to get a Pfaff 545 : And I am experiencing an issue with tension : There isn't any notch neither in bobbin case top, neither in bobbin case base as it normally should (circled in red below, sorry blurry pic). As a consequence, thread is pinched hard while sewing, and pulling the needle thread to the bottom of my work, no matter how I try to set upper tension or bobbin tension. Have any of you having this machine, a similar problem and how did you deal with it ? AlZilla Posted December 31, 2025 Report Posted December 31, 2025 Is it maybe supposed to come out over to the right, at the 5:00 position and ride over that tab? Members WoVo Posted December 31, 2025 Members Report Posted December 31, 2025 There were rougly 10 different hooks for the 545, depending on thread thickness etc. Your hook/machine is set up for very thin thread (likely textile garment production), so no open notch. Likely max. NM 100 thread. Good thing: You could still get parts and adjust the 545. What thread are you intending to use? Quote
CowboyBob Posted December 31, 2025 Report Posted December 31, 2025 Thread underneath the base(on the left) instead on going between it. Quote Bob Kovar Toledo Industrial Sewing Machine Sales Ltd. 3631 Marine Rd Toledo,Ohio 43609 1-866-362-7397

I believe not, according to user manual, but I can be wrong 41 minutes ago, WoVo said: Good thing: You could still get parts and adjust the 545. What thread are you intending to use? That makes sens. I intend to use 20 (tex 135) top and 30 (tex 90) bobbin, with a 120 needle. I suppose I'll have to get a new bobbin case for it... 10 minutes ago, CowboyBob said: Thread underneath the base(on the left) instead on going between it. I'll give that a try ! Contributing Member friquant Posted 23 hours ago Contributing Member Report Posted 23 hours ago You may want to grind it to accommodate your desired thread. Here is a photo of my pfaff 545 when I got it. (note the ill-fitting bobbin case) Quote friquant. Like a frequent, piquant flyer. (note the ill-fitting bobbin case) I had that same thought. But if they made 10 different bobbin setups, I'm thinking the spring must be l pretty fine tuned to the intended thread size.
