338uwm Report post Posted February 10, 2009 I'm palning on making a holster that will end up being a little over an inch thick. The only chisels I've seen wouldn't go all the way through. Those being from Tandy, and I'm tring to stay away from Tandy as I feel there are better tools out there somewere.
Luke Hatley Report post Posted February 10, 2009 sorry to tell you that, you will need to punch the holes before you glue the holster together. or use a drill bit and drill stiching holes after you assembly the holster.
The Major Report post Posted February 10, 2009 That's a thick holster! What's it for a howitzer? Anyway, what size thonging chisel are you looking for. I have made some extra length ones in the past for people. Let me know.

I have made some extra length ones in the past for people. Let me know. I'm useing saddle skirting which is part of the reason it's so thick. It's for my Colt 1860's. I know that it's a little over kill, but it's what I want. With the the fillers the holsters will probly be an inch to an inch and a quarter thick. I didn't think about making my own chisels. Since I've got some real small key stock out back I'll give it a shot all else fails I'll be IMing you.
TwinOaks Report post Posted February 11, 2009 Have you considered skiving or splitting the leather to a more manageable thickness?
