Members StolpSaddles Posted February 10, 2009 Members Report Posted February 10, 2009 My wife talked me into building a saddle that was fully tooled. I built one similar to this one but not as much tooling. The saddle is built with herman oak leather on a Bowden 15 1/2 tree. I used Tandy ecoflow antique with no blocking. The seat insert is chap leather with all other black leather as latigo leather to resist impact damage. The conchos are actual 45 lc shells cut down. The seat insert is in the shape of a spade with 2 aces carved into the cantel seat. Now I can say I am sitting on a pair of Aces The problem with a custom saddle you also need custom saddle bags, head stall, reins, riffle scabbard, holsters....oh no it never ends,,,chaps.. Quote
RustyMelton Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Wow you and your wife are set up, very nice work. Quote
Members JustWakinUp Posted February 10, 2009 Members Report Posted February 10, 2009 Oh man that's beautiful, I love the aces and being able to sit on a pair is always nice too. Quote

Members Casey Jordan Posted February 11, 2009 Members Report Posted February 11, 2009 SWEET! In the next few days I will be posting a "Art of the Cowboy Makers" contest. You should consider entering that saddle. Trophy Buckles, cash.... Casey Quote
gtwister09 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Ron, Hmmm..... A creative theme saddle....maybe a little American Chopper twist (theme saddles instead of bikes). You should have included the photo of the seat from your web site to show off the spade seat insert and the pair of aces better. Regards, Ben Quote
Members bustedlifter Posted February 11, 2009 Members Report Posted February 11, 2009 Wow! Sharp saddle, outstanding work! Quote
Members Go2Tex Posted February 11, 2009 Members Report Posted February 11, 2009 Yes, ditto all the above. Very nice work. I really like the finish. Think I might have to try some of that Ecoflo stuff. Is it fairly water proof once dry or does it need to be sealed with something? Quote
Members budd4766 Posted February 11, 2009 Members Report Posted February 11, 2009 Holy cow, dude...I'd have to buy a prettier horse just for that saddle!! (Not really, but that's incredible!!!) Quote
Members StolpSaddles Posted February 11, 2009 Author Members Report Posted February 11, 2009 Hi Ben I should have added the seat photo, here is one as well as the headstall. There hare a lot of saddle makers out there so I thought that I will be different and do themes for them. Kamloops B.C. has a cowboy festival every year, this year they have an amateur saddle maker competition that I was invited to attend so I think this saddle as well as my wife's saddle will get entered Quote
Members Butch Posted February 11, 2009 Members Report Posted February 11, 2009 Now that's different. I like it. Very nice Quote
