jettrash Report post Posted April 17, 2009 A friend asked me to make a belt for his mother with her name on the back. When I asked him what size it needed to be all he could tell me is she's a 36. She lives a thousand miles away so I cant measure her and since its a surprise he cant ask her for a belt that I can work from. So how long would you folks make a belt for someone who is a '36'? If I didnt have to try and center her name on the back it wouldn't be that tough. Hopefully the 'surprise' wont be a belt that is too short or her name is halfway around her side. Suze Report post Posted April 17, 2009 is there a way you could make the belt with both ends "unfinished" no buckle or holes and then it could be given to her as the surprise and you get it back maybe with one of her belts to "finish" off for her so that it fits correctly? I'm about to make a belt for my cousin, and he is a 36, but I had him measure his belt from buckle end to the hole he uses the most and it came up to 38. ShirleyT Report post Posted April 17, 2009 Us girls wear different sizes depending on the pant or skirt - low rise jeans use a different belt than high-waisters. Kevin Report post Posted April 18, 2009 Like Badger said, somebody's got to be sneaky. And you have to be clear as to exactly what you want measured. I tell customers I need a measurement from where the tongue touches the end of the buckle, to the hole they use the most, that's it , that's all, I don't want to hear anything else, just answer my question, don't think about it, I'll take care of that part. Then that measurement is your middle hole, so they have two holes on either side to use to go higher on the waist or lower. If they can't do it, right, you certainly can't be expected to make a belt that fits by osmosis, and they have to understand that.
