pella Report post Posted May 11, 2009 well, i let you judge by yourself...i receive this email with the picture from a friend. It was saying that the guy (From a village in Quebec, Canada) had this moose baby and keep it with his horses, then later all his horses were dead, he decide to harness the moose and work with him. Ok look like a joke, i am still not sure it is true (but fun to see!) My father told me that is possible, he herd from people in noth quebec that happened... ok so here it is how did he put the bridle on? lol!!!!
CitizenKate Report post Posted May 11, 2009 It may be possible (not that I am someone who would know), but this is just someone being clever with Photoshop. Notice that the two log piles on either side of the beast are identical mirror images of each other. Kate
pella Report post Posted May 11, 2009 YESSS!!!!!!! thats true...haaa... the overall picture was looking photoshoped and unreal to my eyes by didnt notice the wood piles. ha ha ha!
Echo4V Report post Posted May 11, 2009 It might also help to notice that the two log piles mentioned are pine trees and there are no pines in the woods pictured in the background. A better indicator that it is a hoax is snopes.com also, I got this same pic with a different story several months ago. I think it's just going around again. dAvid
Traveller Report post Posted May 11, 2009 I'd seen it before, too. And even though it is surely photoshopped, it's fun to look at! Thanks, Pella! Joanne
oldtimer Report post Posted May 11, 2009 (edited) The idea of driving or riding a moose is old. King Karl IX ( the 9:th) who reigned Sweden during 1550 - 1611 had an idea of using moose for his army , a moose cavalry regiment. It didn´t turn out well as the moose scared the horses. He later forbid riding on moose when two prisoners got away on moose back and they couldn´t be captured, riding too fast for a horse in the woods. We have a lot of moose in Sweden and Scandinavia, about 100 000 are killed each year during hunting season in Sweden. Here are some moose pics - NOT photoshopped ! ( Crazy Swedes! ) Also an URL to one of my neighbours: http://www.moosegarden.com/228-16-112.html / Knut Edited May 11, 2009 by oldtimer
Denise Report post Posted May 11, 2009 We have lots of moose up where we live too. I also have seen old pictures of moose in harness, but nothing lately. And nothing like your friend's website, Oldtimer! The thing people need to remember is that a moose, especially a cow with a calf, can be a very dangerous animal. Some people up here rank them right up with bears as far as dangerous.

All the animals at Moose garden are taken at young age, when their mothers have been killed by traffic, so they are fed by hand from the beginning. I know what a mad moose cow with a calf looks like when she attacks, as I have been to it a couple of times. Furious is the word! It makes your body produce such amounts of adrenaline that you could supply an emergency unit at the city hospital during the whole snow shoveling season ! colttrainer Report post Posted May 12, 2009 (edited) No comment on this photo. But there is documented history of moose being used as pack animals, as their backs stay almost level when travelling over ruff country.
