Her name is Marriah and I was keen to work in a 'wind' reference. We're both Tolkien fans, so I did a bit of research into the elven language and found the translation for 'My Love' and 'My Wind', then carved that in elven script on a belt for her. I didn't want to go black on black, but I also didn't want to get too contrasty, so I went with midnight blue on black. This way it doesn't limit what she can wear with it so much.

So, here's the pics I was able to get of it. I find that it's terribly difficult to actually get a good belt picture. Any tips on this from the photogs out there?

Nice job, Schno. I know what you mean about trying to get a good belt picture. In fact, anything long and thin (like a guitar strap) is tricky. I'd also appreciate some tips - Badger ought to have something to say about this...

Very nice, extremely inventive, afraid I'm not the best at getting pictures to come out the best.

I have have had luck with rolling the belt up loosely and taking the pictures from different sides.

Thanks for showing it off!

Nicely done, I really like the lettering portion alot.

Nice belt buckle as well.

As far as the pics it depends on what camera you have and getting everything setup correctly.

A light box is a gloriouse friend to have and can be built pretty cheaply. A box, some white linens and some tracing paper, then some pretty bright lights, the ones at lowes go for about $10 apiece.

With the longer items its pretty much a far off shot of the whole thing and closer shots of segments or you gotta roll it a little. Also check out peter mains belt pics as he does a really good job.

There is so much in photo stuff that its amazing how much those guys know.

Heres peters pics

Another thing is it also helps to have a nice camera that you can manually focus.

Great looking belt Schno!!

The small "letter" carving seem to be pretty well done alltough the blurriness doesn't give final detail. I hate to shoot belts aswell, I took the last one outside wich is a good idea with black leather. I'm not sure how that will go on a bright sunny day but I never take pics during sunny midday unless the sky is clouded. Dusk and dawn is best but long shadows can cause problems.
