Medieval Girdle Pouch

Recommended Posts

Nice! I like the look of it. Is it made from two pieces of leather, the back and flap and the pouch front? Will you be adding pouchlets to your next one?

It is made from two pieces, but no, I'm not adding in pouchlets yet. My next pattern is going to be a double-pouch design with a cloth lined flap-pouch. I'm progressing through the styles from the most basic (The one I've posted here) to the more complex ones such as the ones with buckles, pouchlets, and wax tablet holders.

If you want documentable patterns, look for the book Purses In Pieces by Olaf Goubitz. It's very readable, has great detail about the different types of pouches and when and where they were worn, and has fabulous pictures and recreations of the items that were unearthed.

If you want ren faire stuff... I have no idea. It's not really my gig. There are too many interesting things to make from documentation to spend a whole lot of time reinventing the wheel.
