This was a fun seat to do, It's on it's way to one of our army bases in Iraq. The solider has a 3/4 chopper he's scooting around on over there and wanted something fun and cool to add to it. Hope you enjoy. Matt

Thanks for the compliment! I use fiebing's oil dye, It did take time to get it to look right thou. black is hard to do i think . I typically put two coats on right away and let it sit for about 24hrs, then take it out in the sun to find what I call blue spots. then I hit the blue spots once and then once more over the whole thing again. That usually gives me a good looking black. Hope that helped

Great looking seat.

On the black I agree it is a pain, plus then you have to worry about rub off as well atleast I do.

One thing I found was that vinegaroon can be painted on then once its done its deed a quick coat of black over that makes for outstanding color (that is if the vinegaroon doesnt do the job). Its harder to use when the whole project isnt black though. Still I have gotten away with doing some painting with it.

One trick to getting a good rich black is to dye the area dark brown first. As you've found, black dye is bluish in color. The dark brown is a redish tone and the combination makes a deep rich black.
