Singer Class 111 model 155

I have a Singer Class 111 model 155. I am not familiar with the "proper" name of the different parts so I hope someone out there can interpret what I am trying to explain. The part of the machine that is under the foot that moves the material away from the operator does not move under power. However if I remove the drive belt and turn the pulley by hand, this part will move back and forth. I oiled the part but under power it still does not want to move. I have studied the part from underneath the machune and nothing appears to be broken. I probably have to adjust something minor but I have not figured it out yet. Anyone out there familiar with this machine? Is anyone aware of a Singer repair help site?

That part is the "feed dog." Its motion is controlled by a stitch length regulator. If I recall accurately, you access this by pressing down on a button on the bed of the machine, then turn the flywheel slightly forward or backward until it pops into a position that changes the stitch length as the hand wheel is rotated. Your machine may have the stitch length set to zero. Keep holding down the button and rotate the wheel to change the stitch length mechanism. One direction will shorten and the other will lengthen the stitches. There is a hole in the front of the base of the machine. If you shine a spotlight on it and look in as you turn the mechanism you can see the stitch length markings move.

When you release the button and rotate the wheel a bit it will pop back into normal operating position and should move the feed dog the set length.

If this doesn't fix the problem it may have parts that have come loose in the feed mechanism chain.

I sew on one of these--- Try checking the TWO screws that hold the black round wheel onto the sewing machine

thats the round black(or Grey) wheel -the drive belt goes on--- If its not "out of time" it could just be those two screws

Turn your wheel toward you-- look and watch for the two holes that are about three inches apart-- down in that "Hole"

is a set screw, this happened to me once- it was those two loose set screws Good luck, hopefully the timing buttons solved this

I could be off base with this. I have a 111W113 machine. It hasn't happened to me, yet, but the manual explains about a safety clutch built into the lower belt pulley. If the sewing hook (bobbin holder) gets jammed, the clutch releases and, if I understand correctly, the bottom shaft will stop turning (and with it the feed dog and sewing hook will stop moving) even though the belt keeps turning the bottom pulley. If you turn the handwheel, does the needle move? Does the belt and the bottom pulley move but not the shaft? If so, this may help

On my machine, I have a pushbutton like stud on the rear right side of the machine sewing surface. It mates with a ratchet sprocket on the bottom shaft. The instructions say to remove any material that may be jamming the hook. Press down the button to lock the shaft from turning backward. Turn the handwheel away from you (backwards) until the locking lever in the clutch mechanism snaps back into place. Hope this helps you.

I'm not sure about the differences between the 113 and the 155, but I believe they're quite similar. Do you have a manual for the machine?

I was correct in assuming the machines are basically the same. I found a copy of the 155 manual and the safety clutch instructions are identical to mine. The picture's aren't very good but should be helpful enough to at least determine if it's the clutch that needs to be reset.

I now remember having that bobbin safety clutch disengage on a Singer 111, I had years ago. The first time it happened I thought I had broken the machine! I hauled the head downtown to an industrial sewing machine dealer, who gave it a spin, identified the problem and showed me how to re-engage the clutch. I can easily see how someone else would think the machine was broken if they weren't told about this feature and how to resolve it.

I'm making a couple assumptions here, since he didn't say anything about the needle not moving, I assume it does and by the feed dog not moving, I assume he meant not up and down either. This leads me to think the bottom shaft may not be turning. Still, it's just a guess on my part. I have a few questions of my own to ask. I've been over almost every little thing in my machine. I'm not an expert by any means but I feel pretty familiar with how it works. I am wondering about why it appears to work when he turns the pulley by hand but not from the belt. I know what it's like to be needing an answer and that's the best I could suggest.

I have a consew 229 but has missing button on the base to lock the shaft. Can I push down a metal or screwdriver on the notch to lock it and prevent it from turning while you trun the wheel.I am trying to change the length of the stitch too but that button part is missing on my machine.
