Ambassador freak Posted January 10, 2010 Ambassador Report Posted January 10, 2010 been wanting to do this for a while now. Got a small crack in my welding helmet. Like any true man with mad can do anything skills, i put a piece of duct tape over the crack. I work outside and i'm very, very tough on this helmet. So we'll see how well this holds up. Used one of those cheap shoulders ????-02 they always have on sell at TLF, you now the ones that are like $20. Used all Tandy's eco-flo dyes, so we'll really see how they fare in the elements. Kinda going for that wasteland look.. ONe of the sets i remembered to get pics of. Sent this out last month for x-mas. And check out that cool new stylus a friend made for me. Ambassador abn Posted January 10, 2010 Ambassador Report Posted January 10, 2010 The "wasteland look" is about all that can be accomplished with those horrible $20 single shoulders! Don't get me wrong, I'm a faithful Tandy customer, but that leather is some rough stuff. Which makes your welding helmet an even more impressive accomplishment! Congrats! And those coasters look fantastic. What did you use to achieve the color? Nice work, my friend. Quote
Chris B Posted January 10, 2010 Report Posted January 10, 2010 I like the idea!!! How did you attach the leather to the helmet? Quote

Ambassador freak Posted January 10, 2010 Author Ambassador Report Posted January 10, 2010 From one welder to another, that's AWESOME! Great job on the coasters too. The horse shoe holder was a great idea as well! Thanks Bryan !! The horse shoe idea was kind of a easy one for this one. She's got a few other things that are made out of shoes. :wtf: AWESOME!!!! Freaky Deaky! That is one cool welding helmet! Love the dye job. Storm Thanks Storm! I love doing this type of dye job when i get the chance. And those coasters look fantastic. What did you use to achieve the color? Nice work, my friend. Thanks Alex! Color on the coasters ? I dyed the background "dk cocoa brown" then just used gel antique "tan". Pretty simple really and fast. I like the idea!!! How did you attach the leather to the helmet? Thanks welder5724, It's only attached by the headgear attachment bolts. It's more of a cover or faceplate. I may go back and add a few Chicago screws if needed. I didn't want to glue it or anything like that, just incase i ever have to take it off. Ambassador freak Posted January 10, 2010 Author Ambassador Report Posted January 10, 2010 Thanks all for the kind words!!! It was a really fun project to do. One i've had in my head for a couple of years now. It came out pretty much like the vision i had for a first. If i do another it's gonna go just a little more to it, IF. We'll see i guess. lol You know, I've never tried antiquing a project. You've just inspired me to try! Thanks for the tip. I like using the antique for the main color. It's easy to apply and covers very equal. Quote It takes more then one freak to have a true freakshow. So take a seat , the show is about to start. Check out the freakSHOW
