Hi guys,

I'm kinda new to this place and I've been lurking for some informative knowledge here for a few days. I'm still trying to find the right source of Shell Cordovan. I only saw that Siegel carries it but any other choices? I'll be making some watch straps out of it. It's gonna be so classy!

Thanks in advance guys!

I think this thread would be better served in the supplier subsection.

If you do a search on them you may find more info as to suppliers. I dont think there are that many public suppliers. Most of them go directly to shoe makers I believe. We usually just get the scrap pieces (horse butts).

As far as I have scene Seigel is the only one that really carries them on a regular basis (that I have scene) but that doesnt mean other places dont. I think the best way to check would be call around and see if the suppliers can direct you.

May try Brettons Village Leathers also.

Horween Leather is who makes most of them nowadays I think and could maybe give you a supplier contact number but not sure if they will bother.

Thats about as far as my experience goes with this stuff which is close to none lol. Good luck with your search.

Hi D,

If you are talking about cordovan shells, the only place I know making them is Horween in Chicago. The stuff everyone sells is the butt leftover after the shell is cut out.

Vootzilla,

Horween in Chicago is the only U.S. manufacturer of genuine shell cordovan. The stuff that Siegel of Ca sells is from Hoween, and Bretton's Village also occasionally carries some. Be prepared to pay a hefty price.

I buy about 10 shells a month from Siegels. Noone else has them as far as I've found. Horweens is indeed the only

tannery who produces it but they won't deal with you as an individual or even a small company.
