buffalobill plus Ed D Report post Posted August 2, 2010 Hello everybody !! ....even though i've been reading the forum for a while now, this is first time posting for me. I've been working with leather for about 8-9 years now but only making dog collars ( i will post few pics very soon). I made few knife sheets but nothing special. Everything that i made , pretty much, was stitched with a Tippmann Boss...some of my early stitching was done by hand.Because i needed somethin for lighter leather (few small projects that i couldn't use the Boss for ) I end up buying this machine few days ago..it did what i was interested in , so i didn't care too much about the manufacturer...brand name...original or copy and so on...Right now i am using it for stitching no more the 2-3 layers of 3-4oz and it work flawless..it has a #24 needle and works with the #138 thread and it has a foot lift of a bit over 3/8in..it has reverse...variable speed motor ...and that's pretty much everything i know about the machine. Is anybody here recognizing tis machine just by looking at the pics?...can anybody tell me more about it ? can i use heavier thread?..can i actually stitch any type of leather as long as it's under 3/8in thick? I know that another way of finding out some of the answers would be to actually to try the machine and find out it's limitations..lol...but i thought it would be much safer just to ask somebody that would already know So here are the pics ...and here are some of my dog collars....I was gonna post them under "Critique my work" because i am really interested in hearing an "educated opinion"...so don't hold back !!..lol.. Thanks in advance !!!
alb Report post Posted August 2, 2010 You'll get much better advice on the machines from others on the list. I did want to comment on the collars - they are fantastic! I love the colors and the dye job is excellent. It does look like you have the buckle on backwards on a couple of them. I appreciate seeing your work. Thanks in advance !!! It looks like a Juki walking foot. As far as the larger thread is concerned you can only try it and see if it will work. I would try a 207 on top with the 138 in the bobbin. The machine will sew what ever you can get under the pressor foot. It sounds and looks as though you have a very nice machine. From the pictures it is doing a terrific job for you. The dog collars are super.
CowboyBob Report post Posted August 2, 2010 This is a Typical China Mod#GC6-7 just like the Tacsew T111-155. You have to be careful trying larger thread as this machine has no safety clutch & if you jam it up it can knock it out of time.I really doubt if 207 will work & 3/8" soft leather will be the max. Those collars look Great!! Bob
Art Report post Posted August 2, 2010 It is a clone of the Singer 111/211, a great machine and there were many of these made over the years. I see them a lot in canvas shops and trim shops (car upholstery), they pretty much run 92/92 thread as a max. You can get all sorts of feet for that machine, just look for 111 feet. Parts are plentiful. Where do you get your ring posts from? All the hardware looks good and the workmanship and finish on the leather is excellent. Ann ...lol...so you noticed that !...it wasn't the first one..or the last one that i put the buckle on backwards and the buckle it's tha last thing that goes on that collar before all the stitching is done...imagine the frustration ...lol... Art I believe those are called flop(ing) terrets..they are meant for horse harnesses...i got them from a horse hardware shop few hours away from me Thanks for the input on my machine..i was gonna start making some sholder (messenger) bags, bracelets...and few other things...and i thought this machine will come in handy .As i mention in my post i am using #138 with no issues (top and bottom)...i think i am gonna try the #207 first on top and if it works then i'll try top and bottom ..i am just gonna go very slow and stop right away if it struggles even just a bit. However, the #138 it enough for what i need Thanks again !!!!
