Hi Everyone. This Aussie has only just discovered this great site. I've been doing leatherworking on and off for the last 20 years or so. Been mainly doing harness and saddlery-related gear Personaly, I prefer the look of plain, or very-minimally adorned leather- probably because I can't carve, or stamp, worth a damn Anyway- I llike the look of plain leather, because I think it shows off the workmanship, rather than bury it under heaps of carving or stamping. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking those who CAN carve and stamp - I've seen some incredible work done - it's just not my thing Anyway..I'm male, 60-ish, live in western suburbs of Sydney, NSW - hoping to dust off my tools and get back into trying to be creative

Welcome to the site. I am sure you are not the only one wishing to have plain leather on your product. Personally I go in the middle, I am not real fond of the entire piece tooled but I do like some tooling.

Look around in the archives, you will probably see many pieces you like.

G'Day mate, welcome to this excellent site. Only joined up myself on Thursday so I am still browsing.. There is nothing wrong with plain leather belts with just a little decoration like saddle stitching or buckstitch. The trick is to know when enough is enough. I think that when you really get into this site and visit the forums you will see the variety of leatherwork available. Regards, BJ

Welcome to the site, I think there is a lot to see and do here. I too am one of those guys who like simple functional leather objects be it wallet or saddle. That said these artists among us will inspire us minimals to dress our work up with a few do-dads. Enjoy the site and welcome aboard...... Jeff

G/Day Thistledown, welcome to the site, only found this forum a few weeks back myself. I know what you mean by can't stamp or tool worth a damn only too well. At the moment I'm doing lots of contrasting overlays to dress things up but love the honesty of unadorned plain leather that's stitched or laced. It has a quality and appeal all of it's own
