Buying In Us With Shipping To Canada For A Machine

Recommended Posts

Has anyone on here purchased a New Leather Sewing machine in the US and had it shipped to Canada ?

I'm interested in a Company selling machines with a great reputation for Customer Service after the sale, which is so important when purchasing anything you buy and especially for someone that has never used an industrial machine.

With the weight of these machines, duty etc. I would like for anyone that purchased a machine for , example $2500. plus tax, what would it end up costing with delivery to Canada? I look forward to hearing from someone that has made such a purchase to see what price I would end up looking at, thanks !

In January 2010 I ordered a Class 3 Leather Sewing Machine from Cobra Steve in Los Angeles. Steve made all the arrangements and the machine was delivered in less than a week. I can only speak to the service provided by Steve in this transaction but I know of other suppliers; Artisan, Toledo Sewing, Techsew and others I'm sure can arrange the shipping and cross border stuff. Techsew is out of Montreal while Artisan and Leather Machine Co are in L.A. Toledo as the name implies is in Ohio. I have acquiantances that have purchased from Toledo and Techsew and both are satisfied. So the choices are out there.

Now for costs; Cobra Class 3- $2195.00

Shipping L.A. to Regina, Sk- $350.00

GST- $103.02

Broker fees- $70.00

Whomever you decide to go with our Cdn dollar is strong and now is the time to buy. I was very impressed with Cobra Steve but my buds were also very happy with the service and advised they received.

Layo.

I am one that Greenwood refered to. There is NO duty on sewing machines. Shipping from Toledo to Sask. was $250. plus provinial tax, Customs told me that you can bring (have shipped ) a machine without a broker, they can just attach an invoice and you pay it after the machine arrives.

Thanks so much for this Info , now I know what I'm looking at , I appreciate it !!

I recently purchased a Mach 3 machine through Leighton's Industrial Sewing Machines in Delburne, AB phone (403) 749-3871. John Leighton repairs all types of industrial machines and can "machine" (make) parts that may no long be available. Trucking freight to East-Central Saskatchewan was $250. That was the machine and motor and stand (approx weight -325 lbs).

Can you move ?

:evillaugh:

I can get it through Canada Customs without a broker and ship it from here.

There probably isn't much if any duty and the gst.

Just a guess but you might be looking at less than a hundred bucks plus shipping.

If you phone them and give them the value they can tell you what it will cost.

All you want to know is the tax and duty on a machine not intended for commercial use.

I don't know if you had a particular make in mind,if not try giving Ron the Techsew guy a call at Raphaels in Montreal. He is a great guy to talk to and the shipping rates he got me to ship my GA5-1R were really good.I am hoping to have it in my shop on monday.

I am NOT saying Lieghtons machines are not good. BUT his price was $1000.00 more than the machine from Toledo when I checked in November and DIDN'T include all the optional parts. ( plates, feet ,table etc.) You are closer to Toledo then Alberta to. I didn't deal with Techsew because they had no machines on hand at the time, would have had to wait 4 to 6 weeks before they thought they might get some in. From Toledo I had my machine in 6 days.

Thanks for this Info, Appreciate it !!
