GDouglass Report post Posted April 13, 2011 I am doing some edge braiding on some chinks for a shop here in town using "Whiskey" colored kangaroo lace that originally came from Hidecrafters. The shop gave me what was left of the lace on a spool, but it is not enough to finish the project and I need to order some more. Hidecrafters does not actually make the "whiskey" color anymore and when I called them, they told me to order another color that was supposed to be the same. When it arrived, it didn't match the old lace. Can any of y'all tell me where to get some of this "whiskey" colored lace? Thank y'all, Grady
rawhide1 Report post Posted April 13, 2011 Grady I think Tandy sells whiskey colored roo precut. The last hide I got that was that color I think I got from Hardtke. How far off is the new from the old. You may have trouble matching the original lace with new lace. The old lace may have changed color due to age or sunlight and as with other leather no two hides are going to look the same. Although they should be somewhat similar. You may have to start over with new lace. I know that sucks but it may be faster than trying to find a match to the existing lace. Mike

Mike Mike, I took a look at the Tandy precut lace and it wasn't NEAR the same color as the lace I've got. I'm going to keep looking for a bit to see what I can find and if it all comes down to it, I might just have to get a CLOSE match and not quite exact. This edge braid is something like a modified 8 strand that would resemble one of the braids in Bruce Grant's encyclopedia the closest, but is still a differentiation. I've got LOTS AND LOTS of hours in them so far, so I'm going to try my best to not have to start over haha. I really appreciate the advice and guidance, though. If I have any other questions, I'll be sure to let you know. Thanks again. -Grady-

The whiskey on there looks EXACTLY like what I'm trying for. I think I'll get that shop to go ahead and order it and see what happens. If it isn't right, I guess we'll try again!
