Making A Metal Belt Keeper

I just saw the previous clip on making a leather keeper and i decided to post a very short clip of me making a metal( brass) belt keeper using a die. I have had the die made few weeks ago when i thought it's a good idea to replace the lether keepers with metal ones and have that end of the belt less bulkier .

Initially i made the die to have keepers made for my dog collars and i thought it looks nice enough to use it for my belts too. So far ,i had the die made in 3 different widths , 1.5in , 1.75in and 2in and as you can probably notice from the video you can make the keeper in 2 different depths using the same die .Most of the time i use the small one for belts and the larger one for dog collars where the leather is thicker.

I would also use a narrower metal band for the belts in the future ...the one in the video it seems to be a bit too wide ...but that's what i have on hand for now.You can see some of my belts with metal keepers in my first post here

I tried to keep the clip as short as i could so if you guys have any questions just fire away !

the keepers in your 6th picture in your link above. your video is shown using flat stock, but how did you make the keepers using the brass in the 6th picture?

Those ones i bought...lol...But they can probably be made too if a thinner brass rod would be used.I think i might give it a try.

ah, yes.....those are what i'm talking about. you bought those? where? i've been wanting to use something like that, but haven't found a source.

Well done, thanks for taking the time to share it.

What a simple and handy die!!!! I have made a couple myself and made it way more complicated and not nearly as user friendly as yours!! What a cool idea, thanks for sharing!

ah, yes.....those are what i'm talking about. you bought those? where? i've been wanting to use something like that, but haven't found a source.

Any harness hardware shop would have them.If you can't find one near you just let me know

Because the 2 plates are held together by screws, i can actually put a shim inbetween, make the slit wider and probably use thin rods too..i am gonna give it a try one of these days' Also i can probably have a leather sleeve that goes on the metal band, then slide it in the die and form the belt keeper.This way the top of it will be wraped in leather.I'll post some pics soon as i'll have one done

I've worked a lot with brass and I think you will find that rod will need to be heated to bend it without fracturing. Your jig is great for flat brass, but would not work for rod.

nice tip, impulse. i want to look for tack shop around here to see if they have any brass keepers. that would negate trying to make them.

I'm glad you're still around!  To me, anything to give a visual back would be beneficial.
