TwinOaks Report post Posted September 10, 2011 There is a stamp for making a 'rope' border. Is that what you're talking about?
amuckart Report post Posted September 10, 2011 I wouldn't know how to do this if my life depended on it, but I happened to be reading Jeff Mosby's site just now and saw a tutorial on roped borders linked from his tutorials page it uses one of Bob Beard's rope tool which you can find on this page. Ferg Report post Posted September 11, 2011 This is a little off topic to this thread. I have visited Bob Beards's site numerous times. I know this man does fantastic work and I can only imagine what his schedule is. IMHO his site is horrible in it's construction. Date for build is 2006. Only part of the time can you figure out where an image is for tools. I have yet to find what is meant by #1 thru #6 size. Can't we have a size given in inches or millimeters ? I know a lot about being so busy you have no time to do important things such as updating a web site, get someone to do it, please. ferg I wouldn't know how to do this if my life depended on it, but I happened to be reading Jeff Mosby's site just now and saw a tutorial on roped borders linked from his tutorials page it uses one of Bob Beard's rope tool which you can find on this page. bruce johnson Report post Posted September 11, 2011 At least half of my orders want the rope border. Unlike Jeff's, most of mine are not contained in bead or cut lines. Mine are beveled to stand up . I used to use the Tandy or Hidecrafter rope stamps. I wore out and bent a couple a year. A while back I got Barry King to make me two sizes as a custom order. Looks like Barry now has them as a stock item stamp now. Nothing against the Tandy and Hidecrafter ones because they made me a lot of money, but the ends bend up on them if you do many tipped impressions. I have a scan somewhere on the forum that I can't find right now comparing the impressions of the Tandy/Hidecrafter vs. Barry's and there is a difference. Here is a link to a thread a few years ago when I was still using the TLF/HC stamps - Rope stamping

benlilly1 Report post Posted September 12, 2011 I carve mine by hand and then bevel. I feel you can be more creative by making it flow in curves if you want. Here is an example of my rope.

benlilly1 Report post Posted September 14, 2011 I make a series of elongated s shapes with the swivel knife and as you approach a corner shorten up the s to make the turn. Then I bevel. Thanks!! I will try it out! "s"
