CustomDoug Report post Posted September 27, 2011 (edited) Anyone have a Singer 45K76 cylinder arm machine? I can't find a dang thing on this particular model. What kind of feed system does it use? What's the presser foot max lift or greatest leather thickness it'll sew? I did find info on the 45K58 which is apparently a darning machine and therefore relies on the operator to manually feed the material (but can be converted to include feed dogs) - so question is, does the 45K76 have a feed system to begin with? etc, etc.. thanks. CustomDoug Report post Posted September 27, 2011 Ah Darn it ! ... of course it is advertised as a leather sewing machine (aren't they all). I know darning is done on saddle blankets and stuff, but perhaps there's also a need for it on leather items too - I don't know. Like I mentioned before, I read that someone converted a 45K58 (another darning model) to include feed dogs using stock Singer parts but I don't think I want to bother, regardless of price. thanks
MADMAX22 Report post Posted September 27, 2011 It doesnt have a feeding mechanism I dont think so you have to hand feed the stuff. Also I think those are a form of chain stitch so you can undo the bags with a pull of one of the threads. Not good for leather work.

Possibly. Is it worth doing? Probably not. The 45k series are lovely machines so if you really want one then wait for one that is correctly configured for the work you want to do. While I want a couple for my collection I don't know if they are really going to be the leather sewing machine you want.
CowboyBob Report post Posted September 28, 2011 I'll have to agree with Darren on this #1 you can't buy the parts(Singer hasn't had them for years) unless someone has a broken machine laying around, then when you get it done you'll have a machine that will sew just under 1/2" & will leave feed dog marks on the bottom of the leather. We converted some years ago & found out it's not real easy as some casting didn't have all the holes drilled & tapped for the screws & shafts that had to be put in them so it is alot of work to do.
