Maker's Mark Stamp Review

Recommended Posts

A little while ago I ordered a maker's mark stamp from Phillips Engraving.

http://www.phillipse...her_Stamps.html

The staff was very friendly and helpful in helping me get my design finalized and ready to be made.

After about 10 days I got my new maker's stamp in the mail and I must say I am very happy with it! For the price of $55.00 with shipping (I also requested the backers plate for handles) you cannot beat having a metal stamp of this quality!

I would recommend them to anyone who is looking to get their own maker's stamp made. :)

Not to burst your bubble: http://www.stormyleather.com/

You're not bursting any bubble. I've been aware of them for a long time. My site is www.stormyleathers.com. The "S" at the end makes all the difference. When I chose my name that site didn't exist. Nothing I can do about them.

But lets keep this thread on track, it's about the review of Phillips Engraving and the maker's mark.

+1 to phillips. Better prices than the plastic stamps, great service, great turnaround times and should outlast the plastic stamps many times over. Only gripe is the required boarder but if you really don't like it you can file it off once you get the stamp.

IMHO best out there although I haven't used the delrin ones and never will my Phillips will do till I bust it case horsehide little longer works well. May just get my initials on next one. Phillips for the money and durability!

I have a delrin stamp and while it works ok, no matter how hard you whack it or whack it repeatedly it will not make as deep of an impression as the metal one. The delrin just does not have the depth that the metal stamps have. The other problem I have with the delrin is that it is round. No matter how well you mark it and work to get it centered and correctly oriented it is still a crap shoot. The square base of the metal stamp would be great as it is easy to get it correctly oriented and square. I don't know how many times I thought I had mine lined up correctly, whacked it, only to find it was turned just a little bit off.

So in summation.......I'm gonna order one of these Phillips stamps.

Hi, what material is this stamp made of, is it of magnesium? Will it work well heated? I too have a delerin stamp and had it for years now. It's durable but it does not leave a very deep impression. It's too small with to many letters on it (that's my own fault) and I have the same problems as Timbo has with centering.

I did not realize that this was an old topic, I guess brass stamps is more hot today. They heat better than magnesium and you can get them pretty cheap. Anyway 40$ for a magnesium maker stamp is not bad.
