What was I thinking

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally finished up the first of the panels for a box project I am working on. The box is 36"w x 22"H x 19"d. It's for me, a box I got years ago that I kept saying I was going to cover in leather, and am finally working on it.

Some of the elements in the project are taken from Doodle pages (the trees, the general shape of the stream) and then the Scrolls I am sure you will all recognize as Robert Beards scrolls. The rest I made up. Even though some of it is from other places it is the first time I have tried to draw my own pattern.

As it states in the topic this is the first of 6 panels for the box. All of them have a different scene on them.

I am not good at floral carving at all so scenery carving is more forgiving.

After I drew out all 6 panels and looked at what became the final drawing of them, I sat back and then thought.... OH Sh*t, now I have to carve them!

From that time on my box project was affectionately named "What was I thinking"

Clay & Kathy be nice, this is the one I was telling you about........ :eusa_naughty:

Wow. Very nice job. Great mountains and love the trees. I'd say your first design is a success. 36"x19" That is a commitment! :) Can't wait to see the rest of the panels! Have you decided on how you are going to color it?

Not sure about coloring it yet, I like the natural leather color so I may just lightly oil them and seal them with Skidmores.

Hi Anne,

I think it's great that you are finally getting some time to work on projects and you certainly aren't limiting yourself to small stuff. You done good on the first panel! It's neat how you incorporated elements in your design that define "you". It's going to be a really nice project when you are done. Now get busy, you have a LOT of work to do!!!!

Clay

(was that nice enough?)

Yes Clay, nice enough. I just know how ornery you can be. I wish you could see this one in person. Compared to the classes we have taken together, I think you would be surprised at some of the depth in beveling I did on the mountains especially..... I surprised my self with it!

Looking really good Anne!

I really want to see the rest so come on, you can do it. First is worst then you'll get into the flow.
